This includes general studies, cardiac studies and the computer interactions Associated with these studies to measure concentrations of radioactive isotopes in specified body areas to obtain diagnostic information for pathologists and physicians. Job Specifications EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or equivalent education. Graduate of an accredited program in nuclear medicine. Registered or eligible for registration as a Nuclear Medical Technologist. Current drivers license is required. Required to have current CPR or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire date. JOB KNOWLEDGE: Must be able to perform complex analysis, which requires a definite network of steps and variables. Must have an in-depth knowledge of techniques, principles, and instruments and their interrelationships. Must be able to recognize problems, identify the cause (technical, instrumental), and attempt to determine solutions. Must have communication skills and be responsible for own work and decisions. Must be able to evaluate procedures and equipment. Must be able to work independently. The patient population must be considered when assessing job knowledge required from the employee. ABILITIES, INTERESTS AND TEMPERAMENTS Verbal ability is necessary to understand technical language used in radiology to communicate with patients for allaying fears and anxieties and obtaining cooperation during test and for periodic review of test instructions and technical literature. Numerical ability is necessary to use standard mathematical formulas to calculate percentage of an original dose of radioisotope present in a gland, organ, or sample of blood or urine, after an elapsed period of time. Spatial perception is required for proper alignment of patient and equipment in three-dimensional perspective required for radiologic procedures. Manual dexterity is necessary to position patient for radiologic procedure; operate scintillation counters, scalers, and scanners; and handle doses of radioisotopes. A preference for scientific and technical activities to master principles of radiology and elements of radiologic procedures. A preference for working with processes, machines, and techniques, in handling radioisotopes, to assist the pathologists in therapy treatments and in performing diagnostic tests. Ability to calibrate equipment to the type and amount of isotope administered and to control the operation of semiautomatic scanners and scintillation machines. Ability to calculate the test sample against a standard to determine exact properties, which involve precise attainment of, set standards. The patient populations must be considered when assessing job knowledge required from the employee. Must have the ability to work with a variety of patients of all populations (e.g. developmentally appropriate care, cultural diversity, patients with pain, victims of abuse or neglect, and diagnosis or procedure specific such as patient with congestive heart failure or cesarean delivery).
