Position description Open Rank Faculty Position in Human-Computer Interaction The Department of Informatics in the Donald Bren School of Information and Computer Sciences at the University of California, Irvine (UCI) invites applications for an open rank position in Human-Computer Interaction. We seek candidates who demonstrate a strong commitment to research, teaching and service excellence and who will contribute to and thrive within our collaborative and interdisciplinary environment. The successful candidate will join a collegial and supportive community dedicated to advancing both research and pedagogy. This search emphasizes the technical side of Human–Computer Interaction (HCI). We invite applicants whose scholarship has a strong technical emphasis, including, but not limited to, those who design and implement novel interaction techniques, build interactive systems and platforms, advance visualization or sensing technologies, conduct research on large-scale or real-time data, quantitatively or experimentally evaluate technology interventions, or develop emerging technologies such as AI-driven, data-intensive, or immersive systems from an HCI perspective. The Department of Informatics is a highly interdisciplinary community, with faculty expertise spanning human–computer interaction (HCI), computer science, software engineering, design, game studies, education, health informatics, digital accessibility, media arts, organizational studies, and psychology. With six CHI Academy members among our faculty, the department is internationally recognized for innovative research and education in HCI, as well as in related fields such as software engineering, computer-supported cooperative work, digital media and learning, game design, health informatics, and science and technology studies. The department offers six graduate programs and four undergraduate degrees, serving more than 80 Ph.D. students, master’s students, and undergraduates, supported by more than 30 full-time faculty and four full-time lecturers. Through this recruitment, we aim to further strengthen the department’s reputation for leadership and innovation across our diverse areas of expertise. One of only five computing-focused schools among Association of American Universities (AAU) members, UC Irvine's Donald Bren School of Information and Computer Sciences is home to the departments of Computer Science, Informatics, and Statistics. The School's mission is to lead innovation in human-centered information and computing technologies, understand their economic and social significance, and develop an educated workforce to further advance technology. With approximately 4, undergraduates, master's students, doctoral students, faculty members, and 85 staff, the School is the largest computing program within the UC system and one of the largest in the nation, providing exceptional opportunities for discovery and learning in all areas of information and computer sciences.
