Primary Purpose of Job:Under general supervision, underwrites consumer loan applications applying regulatory and state regulations, American Savings Bank policies and procedures, Consumer Loan matrices, and the like to all applications in order to make a sound and prudent lending decision. Assists and communicates with branch personnel and/or customers on loan applications to address and resolve any underwriting issue. Major Job Accountabilities:Under general supervision, underwrites consumer loans applications and ensures compliance to all federal and state regulations and American Savings Bank policies and procedures.Ensures the accuracy of all underwriting and information in the loan file to ensure all quality control standards are maintained.Identifies cross-sell opportunities for ASB products and services and makes referral to appropriate sales representative.Responds to telephone inquiries and provides superior customer service to branch personnel and/or customers.Answers, interprets, and explains American Savings Bank lending policies and procedures to branch personnel, the general public, and others.Makes appropriate recommendations and presents alternatives to branch personnel and/or customers based on customers' needs relative to consumer lending.Maintains control of the loan file with the assistance of the Loan Processor and is responsible for the efficient processing of the application up to and including the loan closing and funding.Analyzes tax returns and financial statements and performs an evaluation in order to make a sound and prudent loan decision. For loans above lending authority, makes recommendation to the appropriate individual and/or committee as determined by loan amount and aggregate borrowings.Participates in functions and courses sponsored by lending-related organizations to further his/her knowledge of the consumer loan industry.Accountable for clarification of policies, procedures, and requirements to the Loan Processor involving the loan request.Assists Collection and Recovery with collection accounts.Experience Required:Two (2) years of consumer lending which must be directly related to underwriting and origination or comparable experience.Required Skills Or Training:Proficient knowledge of the banking industry and consumer loan products.Knowledge of federal and state regulations as they relate to consumer lending.Knowledge of fundamental principles and skills in evaluating and analyzing tax returns and financial statements as they relate to consumer lending.Knowledge of accounting principles and practices to adequately evaluate and analyze the financial condition of individuals and business entities.Ability to effectively interpret and apply policies and procedures.Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality of all information contained in the loan file.Ability to organize priorities and work schedule.Ability to maintain and manage assigned loan applications and meet established service level agreements regarding the timely underwriting of loan applications.Proficient in Microsoft Office (ie.
