We recognize those who work diligently for us and reward them for personal and professional integrity, communication skills, distinct competencies and expertise in specific strategies, ability to collaborate as a team member and true dedication to the interests of our clients.We thank you for your interest in joining the Barings team, and invite you to explore our current employment opportunities.Job Title Lawyer—Private AssetsDepartment: LegalLocation: Charlotte, NC Job SummaryBarings is looking for a private asset (private credit and alternative investments) transactional attorney to become a member of the Global Private Assets Legal Team. The attorney for this group will be primarily responsible for assisting internal business clients with issues relating to private credit (senior secured bank loans, and project finance/infrastructure debt instruments), portfolio finance and private equity (control, minority and fund) investments and transactions. This role will be located at the firm’s headquarters in Charlotte, NC. Primary ResponsibilitiesThe successful candidate will be expected to perform the following functions:Review, analyze, and negotiate senior secured private credit investments, private placement bonds/notes, project finance/infrastructure transactions, portfolio finance, and private equity investments.Provide day to day legal support to Private Assets internal business teams and portfolio managers.Identify regulatory and operational issues relevant to a SEC registered investment adviser as they apply to investment transactions on behalf of third-party clients.Communicate material legal, compliance and regulatory issues promptly to the firm’s relevant stakeholders.Select, manage, and oversee external counsel in accordance with the firm’s Outside Counsel Management Guidelines.Provide support and counsel on special projects.QualificationsMinimum of 5 years relevant experience working at a law firm or financial institutionExperience drafting and negotiating private credit, portfolio finance and/or private equity investment agreements and related documentationKnowledge of the Investment Advisers Act of 1940 preferred, but not requiredAbility to appropriately prioritize tasks, organize, and coordinate work while showing initiative, independence and sound judgmentDemonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a teamAbility and willingness to take ownership and responsibility for tasksDetail-oriented and flexible with a strong work ethicSuperior organizational skills and the ability to manage heavy workload of diverse matters in a timely mannerHigh standards of personal integrity and sound business judgmentDiverse problem-solving skills in the investment arenaSignificant interpersonal skills and the ability to successfully deal with internal colleagues, external counsel, and other third parties at senior levelsJ.D. from a highly regarded law school and active membership in a U.S. state barMust be willing to comply with the provisions of Barings’ Code of Ethics related to personal securities activities and other disclosure and certification requirements#LI-ME1Requisite SkillsAdditional SkillsBarings is an Equal Employment Opportunity employer; Minority/Female/Age/Sexual Orientation/Gender Identity/Individual with Disability/Protected Veteran.
