Interpreter Sign Language Licensed

(2-3 sentences describing job purpose): Provides sign language interpretation in all school environments for students who communicate through sign language. Reports to: Building Principals or others in a supervisory position Department Name: Exceptional Education : List, in the order of importance or time spent, the essential duties/tasks performed by the position.This is not an exhaustive list and employees may be assigned additional duties by management as required.Regular and reliable attendance is an expectation of the job. Job Duty/Resp. 1: Provide professional and accurate sign language interpretation for designated students, both expressively and receptively, in the student’s communication mode in all school settings, including school sponsored extra-curricular activities. Job Duty/Resp. 2: Facilitate communication between students who use American Sign Language, their hearing peers, classroom teachers and other school personnel. Job Duty/Resp. 3: Provide other needed support services to designated students, attend meetings and in-services and participate as part of a student’s educational team. Job Duty/Resp. 4: Report progress and/or concerns to the student’s Case Manager. Job Duty/Resp. 5: Collect and record data of students’ performances and/or behavior and complete other duties as assigned. Job Duty/Resp. 6: Follow strict codes of confidentiality. Job Duty/Resp. 7: Effectively advocate for students’ communication needs across the school environment and participate in discussions with school personnel and related in-service trainings. Education and Experience Requirements Education (training/degree) : Required minimum Bachelor’s Degree (Documented American Sign Language Interpreting experience.) Licenses, Certifications or Registrations Required: State of Tennessee Educational Interpreter Licensure Experience: Skills Required: Professional American Sign Language interpreting skills and effective interpersonal skills Data Responsibility: Level 1: Copies, transcribes, enters, or posts data or information. People Responsibility: Level 1: Follows instructions of supervisor. Assets Responsibility: N/A Mathematical Requirements: Level 2: Uses addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division; may compute ratios, rates, and percentages.
