Sport Club Coach Assistant Coach

GENERAL PURPOSE: Under the direction of the A.S./SDSU Competitive Sports Coordinator, the Assistant Coach for the men's club lacrosse team will be responsible for assisting with the coordination and operations of the San Diego State University Men's Club Lacrosse team. The Assistant Coach will assist with creating practice plans and team development strategies; running and controlling team drills; and achieving the enhancement of team skill performance. This position requires availability for evening and weekend hours.The Assistant Coach is responsible for the enforcement of rules, policies, and procedures as outlined in the Sport Club Handbook as well as all duties associated with coaching a collegiate club program. The successful candidate will be expected to enforce and comply with all policies and procedures established by Associated Students/SDSU, the Sport Club Program, and Men's Collegiate Lacrosse Association (MCLA), and , the Southwestern Lacrosse Conference (SLC) while serving as a positive role model for the program and SDSU.ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIESPrimary FunctionsComplies with all job expectations as outlined in the Associated Students/SDSU Sport Club Coaching AgreementSupervises team practices, training, competitions and travelEnsures individual and program compliance with all policies and procedures of Associated Students/SDSU and Aztec RecreationEnsures safety of all team members, assistant coaches, and equipment is the top priority at all timesAssists team members in achieving recruiting goalsAssist with the designs and implementation of practice schedules and training schemes for evening and/or weekend practicesEnsures scheduled practices begin and end on timeAssists team members in achieving fundraising goalsWorks with coaches from other programs and sport leagues to coordinate scrimmages and competitionsAssists with the coordination of travel arrangementsAssists with the necessary equipment maintenance and repairsWorks collaboratively with team officers and administrators to develop and achieve program prioritiesMaintains team's positive community standingAssists in the outreach to alumni to recruit support for the teamRepresents the team in regional or national meetings with other coaches or organizationsPerforms other duties as assignedCustomer Service and CollaborationEstablishes and maintains working relationships with various A.S. and University departmentsRepresents the team and Associated Students/SDSU in a professional manner at all timesMaintains positive and effective working relationships with all athletes and staffSafetyEnsures all operations are conducted with safety of staff and customers as first priority, and in accordance with the Injury and Illness Prevention Plan and other safety policiesAdheres to Associated Students' Code of Safe PracticesReports accidents to supervisor and reviews changes required to avoid reoccurrence Ensures completion proper documentation is completed for each accident (employee and/or non-employee) and forwards to supervisorReports maintenance problems and/or broken and unsafe equipment to the appropriate party immediatelyQUALIFICATIONSMinimum & Preferred RequirementsEducation:Bachelor's Degree preferredExperience:Proficient knowledge of Aztec Recreation programs, facilities, and policies requiredKnowledge Microsoft applications and Aztec Recreation website requiredKnowledge and/or participation of Aztec Recreation programs and facilities preferredLicense & Certification:American Red Cross First Aid and CPR/AED certifications required (on-line courses are excluded)Valid California Drivers' License and proof of automobile insurance are requiredTrainings:Anti-Harassment training (must be completed with 30 days of hire)Workplace Violence Prevention Plan Training (Must be completed within 30 days of hire) Gender Awareness Training (Must be completed with 30 days of hire)Must complete the California Defensive Driving CourseAttend all mandatory Aztec Recreation/Sport Club Staff meetings and trainings as directedPERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONSMust be able to work with confidential items and understand the importance of confidentiality in project workMust be capable of maintaining positive working relationships with staff and athletesMust be able to exercise tact and exhibit sound professional judgmentMust be able to work well with different work stylesStrong organizational skills requiredMust be able to follow oral and written directions and follow projects through to completionCommitment to adhere to all the policies, rules, and regulations of Associated Students/SDSU, Aztec Recreation and sport leaguesKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIESDemonstrated commitment to student success and ability to recruit, train, and evaluate collegiate student athletesHave a strong coaching background with an emphasis on skill development and leadershipExcellent interpersonal communication skills and the ability to work effectively with student athletes, team officers, coaches, administrators and alumniExcellent written and oral communication skillsAbility to handle difficult situations involving participants with patience, good judgment, and with diplomacy is expectedSCHEDULE & WORKING CONDITIONSThis is a volunteer position.
