More than 2,500 team members at more than 70 Tidelands Health locations bring our healing mission to life each day.A Brief OverviewThe Medical Laboratory Scientist (MT) performs chemical, histochemical, or morphological analysis on specimens using laboratory instrumentation and microscopes using Tidelands Health Lab approved policies and procedures. The MT insures quality of results and determines validity of reportable results. The Medical Laboratory Scientist Acts as a resource person for physicians in laboratory testing.What you will doCollects, processes, and handles blood and/or other biological specimens according to established procedures; instructs patients in the proper collection of samplesPerforms a variety of clinical laboratory tests in the areas of hematology, microbiology, immunology, clinical chemistry, and urinalysis, as assigned; conducts quantitative and qualitative chemical analysis of body fluids such as blood, urine, and spinal fluid; performs blood counts using microscopeConducts blood tests for transfusion purposes; may draw blood from patient's finger, ear lobe, or vein observing principles of sepsis to obtain blood samplesDevelops and maintains cell/tissue cultures for testing purposes, as appropriate; isolates and identifies specimens, using advanced laboratory techniquesPerforms quality control on test results, ensuring validity and accuracyPerforms calibration and troubleshooting on testing systems and instruments to ensure adherence to established standards of accuracyKeeps records and reports on results according to established proceduresEducation QualificationsBachelor's Degree in Medical Technology or other Science, plus a minimum of 12 months in an accredited MT program RequiredExperience QualificationsOne year of experience in a hospital setting PreferredSkills and AbilitiesHigh emotional intelligence with critical thinking abilityLicenses and CertificationsMedical Laboratory Scientist - American Medical Technologist Upon Hire Required orMedical Technologist - AAB Board of Registry Upon Hire Required orMedical Technologist - American Society for Clinical Pathology Upon Hire RequiredPhysical DemandLight-Medium Physical DemandThe intent of this job description is to provide a representative and level of the types of duties and responsibilities that will be required of positions given this title and shall not be construed as a contract for employment nor a declaration of the total of the specific duties and responsibilities of any particular position.
