The Routesetting Apprenticeship Program provides an opportunity for new setters with limited/no experience to learn the ins and outs of the Movement Routesetting program, and to develop a core set of skills and an understanding of routesetting.  This is a temporary position that may last for up to 6 months. Upon completion of the program, future setting opportunities are possible but not guaranteed. The first 4-6 weeks of the program are intended to provide a basic introduction to the role, workflow, and safety considerations; the remainder of the program will be an opportunity to gain experience putting this knowledge into practice. Apprentice setters are asked to set 2 days per week, with the opportunity to work more if necessary.  About the role  As an Apprentice Routesetter, you will work with the setting team to learn the ins and outs of the Movement Routesetting program and learn to become an effective routesetter. Apprentice Routesetters report directly to the Head Routesetter or Assistant Director of Setting of their home gym and will be responsible for managing their workflow in an efficient and productive manner.  What you’ll be doing:  Assist with set-up of setting area (boundaries, fixed lines, etc.).  Learn and adhere to all workplace safety expectations and requirements.  Assist with stripping wall sections to prepare for new routes/problems.  Assist with washing and sorting holds.  Maintain tidy setting area throughout the day, and help clean area at the end of the day.  Forerunning Climb product to help the routesetting team grade the routes/problems that are set each day. Be open to feedback and willing to perform as directed. Your climbing will help the setting team ensure all routes and problems are safe, can be executed in a manner that is appropriate for the assigned grade, and that are accessible to a wide range of customers. Additional tasks and projects may be assigned, including but not limited to: assist anchor/safety inspections, setting of boards and training equipment, setting for and participation in activations, customer engagement, or attendance of Routesetting department meetings.  What success looks like:  You approach each day with an eagerness to learn.  You’ve learned and adhered to all workplace safety expectations and requirements (Work at Height standards, etc.).  You have an understanding of Movement's Routesetting program workflow and standards.  You’ve gained confidence working at height throughout the workday as a member of the setting team.  You’ve established yourself as an efficient and productive member of the setting team.  You’ve consistently met production quotas for routes and boulders on all terrain types.  What you’ll bring with you  Gotta have:  You approach each day with an eagerness to learn.  Strong desire to explore the craft of routesetting.  The ability to thrive in a team-oriented and collaborative environment.  Solid work ethic and ability to manage your own workflow.  Attention to detail.  The ability to communicate effectively – communication is your jam and you do well with constructive feedback  The ability to follow and promote safe practices at all times.  Bonus points for:  Lead climbing proficiency  Ability to climb at least 5.11 and/or V5  We believe that a diverse set of backgrounds and experiences make our team stronger.
