We’re looking for a meteorologist who thrives in a dynamic, fun work environment and loves working across teams to solve complex challenges. In this role, you’ll:Leverage advanced tools – including next-generation weather modeling systems and machine learning – to improve forecasting accuracy.Collaborate widely – work closely with internal data scientists, engineers, and operations teams to deliver impactful solutions.Drive continuous improvement – help us refine models and processes to stay ahead in a rapidly evolving industry.Be part of a great team – join a group that values teamwork, creativity, and shared success. If you’re ready to combine your meteorology expertise with innovative technology and make a real difference, we’d love to hear from youKey ResponsibilitiesPrepare and disseminate operational weather reports related to wildfire risk and system-based impacts on a regular basis to provide for preparedness for impactful weather events.  Analyze surface observation data, satellite imagery, NEXRAD Doppler RADAR data, and Numerical Weather Predication data.Support the development of analytical tools for various operational organizations and fire mitigation planning.Improve all real-time and operational forecasts through process improvements via new technologies and advancements.Work with cross functional teams to integrate weather information into wildfire mitigation and community resilience projects.Collaborate with local, state, and federal partners (i.e. National Weather Service, CalFire, Oregon Department of Forestry, Utah DNR-FFSL, etc.), universities, and other research groups to advance the science of Meteorology in relation to the utility sectorDevelop new technologies and communication tools to promote safe, reliable operation of the electric distribution and transmission systems and renewable generation assets.Work with the company’s energy supply function on short and long term seasonal weather forecasts to optimize hydro, wind, and solar generation asset utilization.Provide weather forecasting data to support power procurement transactions.   Must-Have QualificationsBachelor’s in Atmospheric Science, Environmental Science or related field.5+ years’ operational weather forecasting experience.             24/7 availability to support internal departments during emergency operationsExcellent communication skills with the ability to translate highly technical meteorological concepts into non-technical terms.Comfortable working in a fast pace, quickly changing environment during periods of heightening wildfire risk and impactful stormsExcellent leadership skills, strong organizational abilities to oversee multiple and complex issues, and experience presenting complex topics to internal and external stakeholders.Preferred QualificationsAdvanced degree.Certified Consulting Meteorologist Certificate.Experience forecasting weather in the Pacific Northwest, Great Basin, and/or Rocky Mountains.Experience processing meteorological data with various programming languages - Python, NCL, SQL.Knowledge of the company’s strategic plan, regulatory and political environment, as well as the company’s policies, procedures, and practices, and applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations. Employees must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without an accommodation.Why PacifiCorp?We’re an essential business—your work keeps the lights on for millions.Privately owned and stable, with long-term career growth.Above-industry retirement match and strong total rewards.100% onsite: work directly with talented colleagues and cutting-edge technology.Excellent company culture—diverse, inclusive, and supportive.Additional InformationReq Id: 113896Company Code: PacifiCorp #PM25Primary Location: Portland, Oregon or Salt Lake City, UtahDepartment: Power DeliverySchedule: Full-TimePersonnel Subarea: ExemptHiring Range: $103,800 - $134,200This position is eligible for an annual discretionary performance incentive bonus of up to 15% of salary.  Benefits: Health care, retirement, paid time off, tuition assistance, paid short-term and long-term disability, paid bereavement leave.
