Industrial Hygiene Intern

Job Description:Marigold’s summer intern program is tailored to individuals who are currently enrolled in fields of study as full-time students at an accredited, four-year college or university in North America.  Internships are temporary positions, hired through a local temporary employment agency and typically run from mid-May to mid-August. This position reports to the Safety, Health & Security Manager, the Industrial Hygiene Intern will typically work 4, 10-hour day shifts which may include occasional weekends, holidays and night shifts.    The Industrial Hygiene Intern is responsible to provide occupational safety and health sampling, guidance, training and support to the departments and personnel at the Marigold Mine.Key Areas of Responsibilities & Duties: The key responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:Assist IH Team in development of IH initiatives and sampling strategy for siteCoordinate IH sampling across site, and realization of other IH initiativesAssist with MSHA inspections and sampling as directedAssist in updating physical demands analyses and health risk assessmentsSample shipment, data entry, statistical analysis of samplesImplementation of controls, with an emphasis on engineering controlsEmployee notification of sampling resultsAssist divisions with toolbox and other training sessions as directedConduct new hire health trainings as directedMaintain stock of IH sampling supplies and equipment calibration statusProvide health sampling, noise sampling, and biological sampling as neededMonitor and audit effectiveness of all controls in place for health exposuresKey Relationships:This role requires frequent interaction with department employees, supervision, and management to provide assistance, service and support.Ability to build trust and develop great working relationships with site personnel and regulatory agencies.Ability to provide strong leadership and act as an effective change agent.Ability to interact with all departments or groups as needed, for problem resolution.Required Skills:Working toward a Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety and Health or other related fieldMust be able to complete an internship lasting a minimum of ten (10) weeks at the Marigold mine in Valmy, NevadaFull time college student at the Sophomore, Junior, Senior or graduate level majoring in Industrial Hygiene or closely related fieldMust be minimally classified as an incoming Junior for the Fall 2021 semester (proof of enrollment required – must submit with application as attachments)Must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher (transcripts required – must submit with application as attachments)Can have a maximum of two (2) internships with Marigold (this does NOT include summers as working for Marigold as a Summer Student)Excellent interpersonal and organizational skillsExcellent verbal and written communication skillsStrong Leadership skillsExtensive skills using Microsoft computer systemsComfortable giving presentations and speaking to large groupsRequired Experience:Exposure to conducting Industrial Hygiene sampling for dust/silica, noise, metal fumes and mercuryMust have a valid driver’s licenseMinimum age 18 yearsErgonomic experience preferredSSR Mining Inc. is an equal opportunity employer.
