GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES : The QLT is required to perform destructive testing on tubing by operating the tensile testing machine located in the Oil City Lab and tensile testing of banding and clips for Safety. They are required to operate various machining equipment such as milling machine and band saws for sample preparation. Prepare, submit, and track Chemistry sample submissions to outside labs, enter results into SAP. They will review failed batch reports on SAP and take action as necessary. The will be responsibility for Gage calibration, maintenance, and control. QLT will operate the Tensile Tester in Oil City facility. QLT performs a variety of troubleshooting and inspection techniques on in-process and finished tubing being processed and produced by a variety of machinery within the manufacturing facility. The QLT has responsibility for performing a variety of tasks and tests utilizing mechanical measuring instruments, gages, and micrometers. The QLT must have the ability to understand and perform material and chemical testing. Must understand chemical requirements and properties of various grades of steel. EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES: A typical day consists of the following tasks. QLT is required to have the ability to perform destructive testing on tubing by obtaining a 50” sample of tubing and performing a tensile test to determine the strength and elasticity of the tubing. This requires the ability to manually lift a sample that weighs between .5-50 pounds to approximately head/shoulder height, cut tubing with a portable saw, operating a welder to weld fixtures to the ends, and place tubing into the tensile testing machine in order to perform the test on the sample. QLT is required to be proficient in the use of a variety of measuring instruments, including Micrometers, Calipers, and Tape Measures in order to take dimensional measurements such as Outside Diameter (OD), Inside Diameter (ID), wall thickness and lengths of tubing to ensure that all product meets the customer’s requirements. QLT must use the computer located in their office or at a work center to access tubing processing specifics, customer requirements, prior production processing information, tagging requirements, and other quality assurance comments. As the tubing processes through their assigned work centers, the QLT will be asked to trouble shoot any problems with quality on trial or regular orders. Since the QLT performs part of their job responsibility in the production work area, they are required to regularly communicate with the Production Floor Operators, and the SBM’s regarding customer requirements, processing issues, and problems with tubing being produced. QLT is also required to assist in customer claim investigations, which means performing additional quality inspections on customer tubing. This includes visual inspection of defects, special testing (both non-destructive and destructive), and measuring in order to determine or verify customer related problems or concerns. QLT will document results and submit to the Quality Department Manager. Performs other duties as assigned. TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Requires full range of body motion to include: constant lifting, kneeling, pushing, climbing, stooping, squatting, reaching out, around & overhead. When the QLT is assigned to assist a work center, they may, during the majority of the 8-hour work shift, be required to bend and twist slightly forward at the waist to manually roll, push, and pull approximately 50-100 tubes weighing 25 – 250 lbs. each onto a processing table. QLT will use a manual micrometer (measuring instrument) to verify Outside Diameter (OD), Inside Diameter (ID) of tubing, and wall thickness dimensions to customer requirements. When using a micrometer, the QLT will use fingers to constantly manipulate the barrel of the micrometer with some wrist motion of twisting and turning. QLT also performs a visual inspection of each tube for defects. During an 8-hour shift, the QLT may spend their time on the production floor. This would require them to be on their feet constantly while wearing steel-toed work shoes. The QLT will walk an average of 1.0-1.5 miles and/or constantly stand on metal platform or concrete floors. The ability to maintain one's balance while performing the required work tasks is essential. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Requires frequent unassisted lifting of a variety of objects from various positions, which range in weight from 5 to 50 pounds with an average weight of 5-36 pounds. The physical demands of a QLT will increase when required to fill-in, assist, and or train new personnel by performing a production operator’s job. This job is fast paced and the ability to deal with multiple tasks and stress is essential. Some QLT stress maybe related to their job requirements of reporting to management any non-conforming tubing or improper processing or failure to follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) and Work Instructions (WI’s) by production operators. The QLT must conduct themselves in a professional, mature, responsible manner at all times. TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: The QLT will regularly divide his/her time between an indoor office environment at our Oil City and Reno locations and the manufacturing areas of these facilities. The office environment is typically temperature controlled and clean, with normal air contaminants, such as dust, typically found in an office environment. The Indoor, manufacturing environment has regular exposure to loud and prolonged noise. Noise exposure is constant, which includes the noise of machinery and overhead cranes. Noise exposure also includes frequent and extremely loud clanging sounds caused from metal tubing banging against each other during processing. Employees are required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to include noise/hearing protection, safety glasses with side shields and steel toed work shoes. Employees work 8-hour shifts experiencing regular exposure to hot temperatures of 95° F to 110° F in the summer due to the combination of the actual outside temperature and heat from the processes inside the facility. Employees are also exposed to cold temperatures, which is dependent on the actual outside temperature. SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Reports to Quality Inspection Supervisor SUPERVISION EXERCISED: None. PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS: Knowledge, skills and abilities: Ability to deal with stress and get along with co-workers and supervisors. Ability to read and speak English is preferred. Mathematical skills equivalent to high school level required. Math skills must include the ability to do decimals, fractions, and averages. Must be able to communicate effectively with supervisors and co-workers. Proficient in the use of a variety of measuring instruments, including micrometers, bore gauges, calipers, and tape measures. Regular attendance at work, required training and meeting(s) is an essential job function. Must have leadership skills, high level of personal integrity and willingness to indicate when policies and procedures are not followed or not followed properly. Must have excellent organization and planning skills and the ability to think ahead and plan. Working knowledge of ISO. Skillful troubleshooter with analytical mind and strong technical and mechanical aptitude. Education: High school education is required. Post high school education in the fields of quality assurance, metrology, engineering, or metallurgy would be preferred. Experience: Previous manufacturing experience in inspection, production, or trouble shooting techniques would be beneficial. Experience with NDT equipment and measuring instruments preferred. Experience in chemical testing, chemical requirements and grades of steel would be beneficial. Equipment: After training, must be able to operate and read measuring instruments (micrometers, bore gauges, calipers, and tape measures); operate tensile and hardness testing equipment. HOURS: While QLT may be asked to work a variety of shifts, their primary work week will be Monday – Friday, B Shift (8:00 pm – 7:00 a.m.) QLT will work with Quality Manager to ensure needs of 24-hour per day production operation are met. NOTE: MEETING THE PHYSICAL DEMANDS, ESSENTIAL DUTIES, PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING HOURS ARE ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS FOR ALL EMPLOYEES
