Facilities Operations Manager – Job Description We are seeking an experienced Facilities Manager to oversee the full operations, safety, and building performance of a cultural and public-facing institution. The ideal candidate has a strong background working in environments where attention to detail, visitor experience, and operational reliability are essential—such as cultural institutions, university campuses, performing arts centers, or teaching hospitals. The Facilities Manager will coordinate all building systems (mechanical, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, security, AV), align with external vendor partnerships, and support daily operations for public programming, events, and staff needs. This role requires a leader who can balance hands-on facility oversight with strategic planning, environmental controls, and operational documentation, including SOP development and emergency preparedness plans. This role ensures a secure, efficient, visitor-ready environment and drives operational excellence that supports both daily activities and long-term organizational goals. Key Responsibilities Oversee building operations, preventive maintenance, repairs, safety checks, and vendor coordination for mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, security, and AV systems. Partner with internal teams to support exhibitions, programming, events, and environmental requirements for spaces requiring controlled conditions. Ensure compliance with safety standards, building codes, and environmental guidelines relevant to cultural and public-serving institutions. Manage work order systems, daily inspections, and systems performance to maintain high-quality visitor and staff environments. Lead space planning, environmental monitoring, and emergency preparedness procedures. Maintain operational documentation including SOPs, maintenance plans, and incident response protocols. Track KPIs to improve building performance, energy use, and operational efficiency. Supervise facilities staff and foster a culture of high standards, responsiveness, and attention to detail. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Facilities Management, Engineering, Operations, or a related field. + years of facilities management experience in a complex, public-facing setting such as a cultural institution, school campus, university facility, performing arts center, or teaching hospital. Strong knowledge of building systems, preventive maintenance, and safety standards (OSHA, NFPA, etc.). Experience supporting environments with precise environmental or operational requirements. Demonstrated skills in vendor collaboration, budgeting ,strategic planning, project oversight/coordination, and problem-solving. Professional certifications (CFM, FMP, etc.) preferred.
