Each day the District of Columbia continues to be ranked in the top 10 of thriving city indicators where you can live, work and play.INTRODUCTIONThis position is located in the Department on Disability Services, Rehabilitation Services Administration (RSA), Vocational Rehabilitation Services Division.The Vocational Rehabilitation Services Division is responsible for directing the development, planning, administrating and implementation of a comprehensive program to meet the needs of the clients. This includes the provisions of services to persons with physical, mental, behavioral and other impairments, which promote their employability, economic self-sufficiency, independence, and inclusion and integrations into society.The incumbent will provide vocational rehabilitation and job placement services to eligible persons with disabilities including students transitioning from secondary education, to enable them to prepare for, secure, regain or retain a successful employment outcome. The purpose of this position involves evaluating, counseling, planning training programs to enhance job readiness job placement, follow-up and post-closure services to assure a satisfactory adjustment to employment.MAJOR DUTIES Assists with federal/ public/ private employer recruitment efforts.Develop relationships with government and non-government agencies and other entities, in an effort to find employment opportunities for RSA clients.Educate prospective employers about RSA’s programs and the benefits from partnering with RSA.Collaborate with rehabilitation counselor in pre-employment transition of client.Ensure clients are work-ready, in accordance with RSA regulations and DC Government law.Works with clients in securing employment suited to his/her strengths, resources, priorities, concerns, abilities, capabilities, interests and informed choice, in coordination with the rehabilitation counselor.Develop career paths for clients with information provided in the Individual Employment Plan (IEP).Assist with obtaining internships based on client’s employment goals.Assist client with job readiness activities, such as resume writing, interview preparation, completing job applications, and job search through weekly training and workshops.Assist clients with soft skill development.Document client’s progression and keep record in an automated database system.Accompany clients to hiring events and ensure client has necessary documentation to apply for jobs.Coordinates post-employment services with the rehabilitation counselor, when necessary, to assist the client in a satisfactory adjustment to employment and maintaining a successful employment outcome, such as, acquiring a job coach and providing them with any necessary accommodation.Assist with coordinating special events, fairs and programs for clients.Perform other duties as assigned.QualificationsApplicant must have one (1) year of Specialized Experience at the next lower grade-level. Four (4) years of experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to assess the strengths, skills and ability of job seekers with disabilities, in an effort to find and retain gainful employment.Applicants must have met the qualifications requirement for this position by the closing date to be eligible for this position.Education, Licensures, Certifications and other RequirementsMinimum requirement: bachelor’s degree in a related area is preferred.An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered. Work Experience/Knowledge Knowledge of intellectual and developmental disabilities sufficient to determine the requirements necessary to prepare an individual for placement in a job in the community.Knowledge of the local labor market and its practices, work requirements and the needs of specific employers, employment trends, salaries and related information in order to assist consumers in preparing for, securing, and maintaining employment.General knowledge of organizational structure, missions, policies and objectives, functions and administrative and operating procedures of the agency and assigned area of responsibility.Practical knowledge of purpose, operation, methodology, and techniques employed in conducting and developing training sessions.Knowledge of state and federal laws pertaining to the provision of services to people with disabilities. Ability to communicate effectively and persuasively, both orally and in writing.Skill in the use of office automation hardware and software, , Microsoft Office applications.Collective Bargaining Unit This position is in the collective bargaining unit represented by local union AFSCME 2401.Work ScheduleThis position requires 4 days a week in the office. Additional informationOnce applications are submitted, applicants will not be able to change their responses to the online questions.The position for which the individual is applying has been identified and designated as requiring federal suitability screening;If tentatively selected for the position, a criminal background check, traffic record check, consumer credit check, and mandatory drug and alcohol test will be conducted (as appropriate); and The appointee to the position may be offered employment contingent upon receipt of a satisfactory enhanced suitability screening;How You Will Be EvaluatedYou will be evaluated for this job based on how well you meet the qualifications above.Your application includes your resume, responses to the online questions, and required supporting documents.
