Custodian Job PurposeThe Custodian performs assigned custodial tasks as it relates to that particular job location. This includes general cleaning (restroom, offices, cafeteria, sales floor, others as assigned), buffing, scrubbing, and ability to perform basic tasks of vacuum, sweeping, mopping and use of equipment such as scrubbers, extractors, and buffers.EXPECTATIONS FOR SATISFACTORY JOB PERFORMANCEPerforms all general required tasks as directed by Lead Custodian or SupervisorUses floor machines for buffing, stripping, waxing, vacuuming and carpet cleaning safely, according to proper usage, and as agreed to schedule with store/customerPerforms all tasks within proper safety guidelines, company guidelines, and as directed by managementFollows all company policies and procedures regarding safety, customer service, proper attire, and working conditions such as hours and timekeepingPerforms assignments according to company schedule and as expected by customerWears uniform at required worksitesPerforms janitorial/custodial tasks based on defined scope of work and customer requests. These are performed to published schedules and within explained guidelines. These tasks often include the following:Empty wastebaskets and replace liner as neededDust/clean tops of office furniture, desks and tablesVacuum all carpetingSpot clean soiled areas when neededClean and sanitize toilets, basins, and urinalsClean counters, mirrors and fixturesSweep and damp mop floor with disinfectantSpot clean walls, partitions, and doorsRefill all restroom dispensers as neededWipe/clean all table tops and chairsWipe/clean vending machines and appliancesClean sink and damp mop tile floorsThis position may work nights, early morning, weekends, and holidaysFollows oral and written instructionsWorks effectively individually and with a teamAttends periodic training and safety meetingsPrefer a high school diploma or equivalent plus 1–2 years of experience in custodial, janitorial, or cleaning services.REQUIRED SKILLS:EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATIONSBasic knowledge of custodial duties and janitorial responsibilitiesKnowledge of cleaning equipment including vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, scrubbing and applying finishes on different flooring materialsKnowledge of cleaning techniques and processesKnowledge of the qualities and uses of various cleaning, sanitizing, stripping, and waxing compoundsExperience in cleaning and sanitizing washroomsAble to demonstrate importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, utilize appropriate safety equipment, and report unsafe conditions to appropriate SupervisorAbility to follow directions and work within guidelinesMust be able to read, understand and follow units of measure on product labelsSatisfactory personal appearance and hygiene within company guidelinesDemonstrated ability of maintaining janitorial equipment in a clean, safe and operable conditionPass a drug screen and/or background investigationPREFERRED SKILLS:Ability to maintain janitor closets in a clean, organized and safe manner and according to company guidelines and all regulationsESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Able to read and communicate in EnglishRequires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects or materials up to 50 poundsRepetitive motion involved on a daily basis may include, but not limited to, bending, twisting, pushing, pulling, reaching, climbing, and squattingAbility to operate small power toolsRequires stooping, kneeling, crawling, bending, turning, and reaching into areas not fully air conditionedAble to stand and walk for extended periods of time to include climbing/descending stairwells and laddersCan work independently and in stressful environmentsRegular, consistent and predictable attendanceOptional local area travel using personal vehicle.
