Piper Companies is seeking a Tax Manager to lead and support a broad range of domestic and international tax compliance, planning, and reporting activities for a publicly traded company in the Silver Spring, MD area. This is a full-time, direct hire role that offers a hybrid schedule (3 onsite days per week). Responsibilities for the Tax Manager include:Manage U.S. federal and state income tax compliance, including quarterly estimates and coordination with external providers. Oversee global income tax provision under ASC 740, including tax footnotes and supporting documentation for SEC reporting. Lead international tax projects such as transfer pricing, R&D credits, and foreign tax filings. Support tax planning and compliance for employee benefits and executive compensation, including equity-based reporting. Handle fixed asset tax analysis, cost segregation, and reconciliations. Administer indirect tax compliance (sales/use, property, VAT, GST/PST) and related filings. Prepare documentation for audits and respond to tax authority inquiries. Monitor tax law changes and assess impact on business operations. Identify and implement tax process improvements, including automation and technology solutions. Collaborate with Finance, Legal, HR, and external advisors on tax matters and forecasts. Lead and mentor tax team members, supporting development and recruitment. Qualifications for the Tax Manager include:Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (Master’s, CPA, or JD preferred). 8+ years of tax experience (or 6+ with advanced degree or certification). 5+ years in a multinational corporation or public accounting firm. 2+ years of people management experience. Strong tax research, communication, and problem-solving skills. Experience with SAP and fixed asset software preferred. Familiarity with complex compensation and equity reporting.
