GENERAL SUMMARY:The Program Specialist assists with the overall Community Program to ensure the residents lives are enriched by offering a broad range of activities / programs in a variety of settings. These programs should appeal to the varied lifestyles and backgrounds of the residents, while offering choice, fostering independence, promoting individuality, and nurturing the spirit of each individual. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:Conducts individual, small group and large group programsAttends outings with the residentsParticipates in celebrating resident events/accomplishments: birthdays, anniversaries, etc.Participates and helps to engage residents in a variety of activities and programs such as: intellectual, cognitive, physical, spiritual, social, recreational, creative, reminiscence, life work, life experiences, cultural, outdoor / nature, inter-generational, male or female oriented, educational, and special programs for memory impairmentAssist with resident meal serviceAssist with the development of the Community Program calendar and newsletterRecommends and helps in ordering supplies that are needed for programsAssist with developing, implementing, and maintaining an ongoing quality assurance program for the Community Program departmentEnsures that resident rooms and common areas are clean and safe at all timesEnsures the proper use of equipment and supplies and upholds cleaning and safety standardsAttend and participate in educational classes, on-the-job training programs, and orientation as scheduled or requestedRespond in a timely manner to requests of residents, families and guestsMust in company uniform and resident ready at all timesPerforms other related essential duties as assignedKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:Able to communicate effectively with all levels of management, team members, residents, family members, vendors, referral sources and outside contactsAble to make independent decisionsMust be able to communicate in a warm, friendly and caring mannerMust possess a passion to work with and around senior citizensKnowledge of customer service principles and practicesEDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: High School Graduate or equivalentEXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:Experience in a Memory Care environment preferredPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The following physical demands are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of this position:Able to stand or walk 75% of the dayAble to driveAble to concentrate with frequent interruptionsAble to work under stress and in emergency situationsAble to work under conditions that require sitting, standing, walking, reaching, pulling, pushing, and graspingAble to talk and hear effectively in order to convey instructions and information to residents and team membersOccasionally lift/carry up to 50 poundsOCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE / PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT:Work in all areas of the communitySubject to reactions from dust, disinfectants and cleaning chemicals and may be exposed to infectious waste, diseases and other conditionsUse personal protective equipment and supplies when needed to prevent burns, falls, and infectionPersonal protective equipment includes infection control kit, rubber gloves and non-slip shoesSubject to infectious diseases, substances and odorsFollow Safety Policy & Procedures
