  • ARI takes a bipartisan approach, building coalitions across the political spectrum.    About the Role Reporting to the Vice President of Policy, the Policy Analyst is a critical member of ARI's Policy team.
Each Policy Analyst is responsible for supporting Directors of Policy and the Vice President of Policy on research projects, for supporting the Vice President in the execution of ARI's policy strategy, and for generating original research.    ARI's Policy team performs several key activities, including:
  •   Original research and analysis to inform policy development and dialogue.
  • Policy development by drafting policy proposals and providing feedback to policymakers and other stakeholders.
  • Curation and assessment of research and proposals from think tanks and academia to elevate the best ideas to policymakers.
Non-partisan educational programming for policymakers.   Our Ideal Candidate We're looking for someone who:
  •   Has experience in AI and/or technology policy.
  • Has demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with a range of experts and stakeholders.
  • Has experience producing original research and analysis.
  • Has familiarity with the national AI policy dialogue, including proposed and existing AI legislation, executive orders/policies, and original research and policy proposals from across industry, academia, and civil society.
  • Has experience communicating technical topics to a variety of audiences.
  • Is interested in working in a dynamic startup environment.
  • Has humility, recognizing that they do not have all the answers, and is excited to work with numerous collaborators.   Key Responsibilities Support development and execution of ARI's AI policy strategy.
  • Support research projects led by Directors and the Vice President.
  • Write whitepapers, policy proposals, blog posts, op-eds, and other content to share analyses and policy recommendations.
  • Conduct independent research and analysis to inform, recommend, and advance policy priorities.
  • Closely monitor and assess proposed legislation, executive branch actions, and other policies to remain informed of all relevant AI developments.
  • Draft memoranda to support ARI leadership in preparing for key meetings.
  • Brief and update the ARI team on major developments in given policy areas.
  • Collaborate with and support other ARI teams including Government Affairs, Communications, executive leadership, and Operations to achieve broader organizational strategic goals.  Support the development of briefings for policymakers and other key stakeholders Develop expertise in given policy areas.
  • Draft legislative proposals and provide feedback on legislative proposals by others.
  • Keep up-to-date on key AI developments including advancements in industry, research in academia, and reports and proposals from other think tanks.
  • Support and develop education and networking activities.
Generally support the team in accomplishing its mission.   Qualifications Required:
  •   2+ years working in technology policy.
  • Demonstrated interest in AI technology and policy/technology governance.  Superior research and analysis skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and collaborative mindset.
Bachelor's degree.   Preferred:
  • Bachelors or advanced degree in a relevant field (e.g., public policy, law, computer science, etc.). 1+ years focused on AI/emerging technology policy.
  • Experience working in government.
  • Technical knowledge/background in AI and/or computer science.
  • Record of publications on AI and/or technology policy.
  • Existing relationships with key AI and/or technology policy stakeholders.
  • Experience and comfort engaging with government officials.
  • Demonstrated ability and commitment to working across partisan lines and ideologies.   Compensation, Benefits, and Location This is a full-time position based in Washington, DC.
  • Relocation assistance may be available.
ARI maintains a flexible hybrid work schedule (working in-person Tuesday-Thursday and remote on Monday and Friday).   The salary range for this role is $80,000 - $100,000 commensurate with experience.   ARI offers a comprehensive benefits package including:

  • Unlimited PTO and ~20 office holidays including all federal holidays and the week between Christmas and New Year's Day. 401k Retirement Plan with 6% employer match.
