Together, we create our culture by living our values in our day-to-day interactions with our patients and teammates.Job SummaryThe Director of Plant Operations is responsible for the overall management of hospital facilities, plant maintenance, safety, and regulatory compliance. This includes oversight of physical plant infrastructure, mechanical and environmental systems, safety programs, emergency preparedness, and construction management. The role ensures that the hospital environment is safe, operational, and aligned with organizational standards, budget objectives, and applicable regulations.Essential FunctionsDirects and evaluates operations including construction, plant maintenance, groundskeeping, and securityDevelops and oversees departmental budgets, vendor contracts, and performance metricsEnsures compliance with TJC, OSHA, NFPA, CMS, and other local/state/federal regulatory agenciesServes as facility Safety Officer and chairperson for Environment of Care (EOC) CommitteePlans and executes facility emergency preparedness drills and liaises with Homeland Security and FEMAOversees infrastructure maintenance programs, including HVAC, boiler, electrical, fire safety, and life safety systemsCoordinates audits and inspections for safety and facilities readinessManages staff recruitment, training, scheduling, performance evaluations, and corrective actionsCollaborates with hospital leadership to support strategic facilities planningProvides leadership in continuous improvement for safety, quality, and operational efficiencyKnowledge/Skills/Abilities/ExpectationsStrong knowledge of hospital facilities operations, life safety codes, and emergency preparednessTechnical skills in HVAC, boilers, electrical systems, fire safety, and building systemsProficiency in interpreting architectural plans and compliance standardsEffective leadership and team-building skillsCritical thinking and problem-solving in high-pressure situationsExcellent verbal and written communicationAbility to manage multiple priorities and projects concurrentlyComfortable with data analysis, budgeting, and strategic planningFamiliarity with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS)QualificationsEducationHigh School Diploma or GED Equivalent (Required)Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Facilities Management, Environmental Services, Business, or related field (Preferred)Licenses/CertificationsCertified Healthcare Safety Professional (CHSP) or relevant certifications preferredFacility may require licensure to be obtainedExperienceMinimum two (2) years of experience in hospital maintenance or a related environmentSupervisory experience requiredTen (10) years preferred in healthcare facilities operations
