Position DescriptionThis position is within the Naval Supply Systems Command (NAVSUP) located at any NAVSUP Fleet Logistics Center (FLC). The primary purpose of the fuels systems distribution worker is to perform basic and predictive delivery of fuels that are general and repetitive in nature. Examples illustrating the nature of the position are pump fuel, load fuel trucks, conduct airfield operations work as required and/or conduct water front fueling activities.Position Duties/ResponsibilitiesThe primary duties of the position involve relatively routine and basic fuel distribution work. Typical skills required to perform these duties are routine in nature, such as fueling and de-fueling tanker trucks, fueling aircraft or navy combatant ships, Operates gasoline or diesel powered vehicles with gross vehicle weight of 33,000 pounds transporting fuel throughout the facility and authorized customers. May operate other vehicles, such as vacuum trucks, and runway sweepers. Completes vehicle trip tickets and fills out driver accident reports in the event of an accident. Can occasionally operate cranes up to 20 ton capacity. Operate other type and size vehicles for which qualified and licensed. Operates pumps and valves to load tank trucks with bulk lube oil, filling to markers or amounts required from verbal or written instructions. Delivers oil to government facilities and ships located at the Fuel Department, deploying hose up to 100 feet and pumping into containers, and/or tanks. Uses various fittings and adapters to provide mechanical connections to prevent spills and/or loss of product. At the truck loading rack, aircraft fuel skid, or fuel wharf, incumbent operates equipment needed to transfer fuel or other petroleum products from pre-selected storage tanks to trucks, ships, aircraft, and/or vehicles. Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a valid class B state driver's license. When working on the fuel wharf, incumbent secures ship’s mooring lines, stands hose watch, attaches fuel hoses to fueling stations, and regulates the flow of fuel. When working on an airfield, incumbent grounds aircraft, attaches fuel hose, operates fuels skid, or drives runway sweeper. Observes pressure gauge readings and temperatures, adjust hose dollies to prevent pinching and patrols the wharf to looking for potential hazards. Vehicles are driven within the confines of a government installation, between government installations, or on primary/secondary roadways and highways. Most roads are well maintained. The basic tasks and duties performed at the truck loading rack are the loading and unloading of commercial and government owned tanker trucks with diesel, jet fuel, lube oil, and fuel oil reclaim. When working on a fuel wharf the general tasks are line handling, spill containment booming, hose watch, operating small craft, and connecting hose to fuel risers and when working at an air station the work consists operating fuel skids, grounding aircraft, and connecting hose to under wing and/or over wings of aircraft, The fuel distribution worker is also tasked to measure the fuel quantities received, sold, stored, and transferred to fuel related equipment such as tanks, trucks, or ships. The work consists of gauging fuel tanks using plumb bob and tape before and after each transfer, reading tank level indicators, and recording the information so it can be used for inventory control purposes. Perform general preventative and breakdown maintenance, such as painting, housekeeping of grounds, cleaning valve vaults, sumps, and other such duties as assigned. Performs operator preventive maintenance of hose testing, cleans and lubricates fuel stations, packs and lubricates valves, expansion joints, replaces filters and strainers, installs gaskets, etc. Take adequate precautions to avoid fuel oil spillage at fuel delivery stations. In the event of a spill notifies supervisor in compliance with Integrated Contingency Red Plan policy.
