Coordinates work efforts of Plant Operators and Maintenance to ensure all procedures are performed in a safe and efficient manner, to protect the safety of personnel and equipment. Act in accordance with the NRG Conduct of Operations. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Properly operate, inspect, and monitor in a safe, efficient, reliable, and environmentally sound manner power plant equipment including: Gas Turbine/ Generator and its associated auxiliary equipmentFeedwater / Condensate SystemsFuel SystemsBoiler EquipmentWater Treatment SystemContinuous Emissions Monitoring System Understand and execute the tag out/lock out of equipment per NRG Tag Out/Lock Out procedure.Observe variations in operating conditions and interprets meter and gauge readings to troubleshoot plant equipment to resolve operational problems.Recognize safety hazards and follow safety guidelines for personal protection, protection of fellow workers and the protection of the public.Work with junior level staff to teach proper operating procedures.Monitor and record data available using various instruments, recording charts, annunciator systems and other monitoring devices onto shift logs as directed by plant operational procedures.Troubleshoot plant equipment to resolve issues.Generate and review work requests for execution of equipment repair.Delegate work to operators from work orders (i.e., PMs).Implement plant emergency procedures as needed.Operate various computer systems to receive, analyze, comprehend, and input data.Ability to understand and follow written and verbally communicated instructions.Perform routine cleaning of work area.Use loose and tight fit respirators Working Conditions:Normal office environmental and/or power plant environment out-of-doors work environment.  Out-of-doors environment at generating plant work locations includes:Work in and around rotating equipment, high voltage electrical equipment, high noise areas and elevations up to 250 feet.Work in all temperatures and climatic conditions.  Some temperatures can be extreme.Work in confined spaces, some requiring the use of respirator protective equipment.Performance of duties requires response to calls 24 hours/day, seven days/week and working irregular shifts.Emergency situations will require the use of a respirator and climbing stairs to reach safety shelters.Facial hair in the sealing area of a respirator is not permitted.Contact lenses are not permitted except for specific medical reasons.Substantial footwear must be worn in accordance with the current Safety Shoe Policy. Minimum Requirements: Education:High school diploma or GED.  Experience:6 years’ experience as a Plant Operator in a power plant environment or equivalent experience and skill to include on-the job training.Possess a valid State Driver’s LicenseA TWIC card is required to work on the PEMEX facility.  Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Prefer Mark VI, Mark VIe, and ABB DCS control systems experienceKnowledge of power plant system operations and basic power plant principles used daily in decision making and work tasks.Knowledge of and ability to operate various switches and valves and understand the effect each has on the total operation of the generating station.Able to multi-task and prioritize work assignments to ensure safe and efficient plant operation.Strong basic level mathematics skills - addition, subtraction, multiplication and division to perform flow, pressure and meter calculations.Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematic diagrams, procedures and technical manuals.Sound communications skills with the ability to effectively communicate plant system and equipment conditions on to others on shift change and as necessary.Ability to perform checks (e.g., PM’s) on running and idle equipment.Attention to detail with the ability to discern and respond to verbal and auditory signals from control panel.Ability to record and analyze readings of various electrical and mechanical meters.Self-motivated with the ability to work without supervision and inspection while carrying out duties.Ability to operate Company vehicles and equipment (e.g. forklift, plant vehicle, etc.) and maintain operating licenses and certifications. Ability to use a personal computer and associated software.Ability to operate various computer systems to receive, analyze and comprehend data.Able to describe and to generate accurate work notifications for execution of equipment repair.Ability to communicate information clearly, both orally and in writing.Ability to assist Maintenance and others in performance testing.Teamwork skills – able to work harmoniously in a small team environment, support other team members, and manage conflict through respectful communication.  Physical Requirements: Power Plant Environment-Work both inside and outside in all temperatures and climate conditions in accordance with Heat Stress procedures. Work around large rotating equipment, energized electrical equipment in high noise areas, and/or in confined places, on elevations in excess of 250 feet, or from platforms at heights of 5 feet or greater. Climb stairways, ladders, and work from aerial devices.Must be prepared to work irregular or rotating shifts and respond to emergency callout 7 days a week, 24 hours a day.Ability to work in mentally stressful environments: must be able to react to crises where immediate action is required to correct or curtail potentially damaging or hazardous situations.Daily work expectation requires ability to perform tasks by walking, standing, sitting, kneeling, crouching, squatting, twisting, pushing, pulling, shoveling, climbing, and working with hand tools (up to 25 pounds) in positions above and below head, and extended from body to complete repairs.Lift, carry, position, and use tools and/or equipment (weighing up to 50 lbs.) in awkward positions, swing various weights of sledgehammers, stoop and bend to reach valves, pull on chain-falls or come-a-longs.Ability to twist the body and neck while driving company vehicles or operating company equipment.Performance of duties may cause frequent jarring of the body.Work with and around hazardous and non-hazardous materials (reference the waste management guidance manual).Must be able to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as required i.e. steel-toed boots, hard hats, respirators, goggles, safety glasses etc.Have ability to discern and respond to verbal and auditory signals/commands.Ability to discern assorted colors.   Compensation and Benefits:Compensation and Benefits are administered per the terms and conditions of the Deer Park Contract represented by IBEW 66.Platform Plan Benefits  This job description reflects an assignment of essential functions; it does not prescribe or restrict the tasks that may be assigned.  Other duties and tasks may be assigned to this job at the Company's discretion. Please Note:  Salary offered will be commensurate with the successful candidate’s education and/or experience and in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement covering this position.  NRG Energy is committed to a drug and alcohol-free workplace.
