Position Information Job Title Tenure Track Assistant Professor in Special Education (2026 2027) Rank Assistant Professor Salary Range $68,000 -70,000 Tenure Information Tenure Track Job Description The College of Education, Nursing, and Health Professions (ENHP) at the University of Hartford is seeking to fill a tenure-track assistant professor position in Special Education beginning August 2026. Candidates are expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Special Education in face-to-face and online synchronous and asynchronous formats; academic advising and mentoring for undergraduate and graduate students; scholarly productivity in special education or a related field; contributions of service at the university, college, department (e.g., accreditation) levels. Responsibilities The successful applicant will ordinarily teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Special Education, which may change based on departmental needs. There may also be opportunities to teach our innovative general education and interdisciplinary courses. An active scholarly/research/artistic agenda with peer-reviewed publications, presentations, performances, exhibitions, or other accomplishments are expected for successful tenure and promotion. Service to the department, college, and university typically includes advising students, contributing to student recruitment and retention, committee service, participating in departmental and college-wide initiatives, and accreditation. Required Qualifications Required: Earned doctorate from an accredited institution in special education or related field at the time of appointment (doctoral candidates completing their dissertation by August will be considered) School-based teaching experience or equivalent applied experience Evidence of scholarly specialization related to special education Preferred: Special Education teacher certification Excellent written and verbal communication skills Reliable and detail-oriented, with excellent organizational skills Working with diverse student populations Involvement in school/ community partnerships Experience with academic advising and mentoring of students A record of university-level teaching through face-to-face, hybrid, and asynchronous online formats Familiarity using online platforms, e.g., learning management systems and assessment platforms Evidence of service to the field Familiarity with CAEP/CEC standards and accreditation Commitment to inclusive excellence and belonging Preferred Qualifications Diversity Statement As an institution of higher learning, the University of Hartford strives to be more than merely a mirror of the larger society; it should foster learning and encourage the personal growth of students, faculty, and staff in an environment that promotes and celebrates diversity in all of its forms regardless of identifying factors including but not limited to race, sex, age, religion, national origin, socioeconomic status, physical and learning differences, sexual orientation, gender or gender identity.
