Position SummaryAs the L1MA, reporting directly to the Director of Nursing, you will provide support, direct care, and administer prescribed medications to the residents in accordance with Federal, State and Local regulations.Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:Participate in shift change meetings to communicate with oncoming associates regarding resident status or special needs.Administer prescribed medications to patients and maintain related medical records under immediate supervision of the nurse on dutyVerify identity of patient receiving medication and records name of drug, dosage, and time of administration on specific forms or records.Take vital signs or observe patient to detect response to specified types of medications, and prepare report or notify designated personnel of unexpected reactionPresent medication to patient and observe ingestion or other application, or administer medication, using specified proceduresDocument reason prescribed drugs are not administeredProvide direct patient care, such as bathing, dressing, and feeding patients, and assisting in examination and treatments. Report changes in resident medical conditions and behaviors to physicians, families, and community leadership ensuring completion of incident reports.Work with physicians and the pharmacy to make sure mediation is ordered properly, receive supply of ordered medications and apportion, mix, or assemble drugs for administration to patientCommunicate with multiple levels within and outside of the organization: including residents, families, resident assistants, community leadership, pharmacies, doctors and third party care providers.Ensure that all medication is kept in a secure location at all times. Record and restock medication inventory.Follow the Rights of Medication Administration at all timesOther duties may be assigned.Supervisory ResponsibilitiesThis position does not have any supervisory responsibilities. Requirements EducationHigh school diploma or general education degree (GED)Skills/ExperienceMust have current state Level 1 Medication Aide certification 2 – 4 years’ experience preferredBasic Life Support (BLS) certification preferredInsulin certification preferredIdeal to have some experience in a senior care community with proven leadership and organizational skillsGreat communication and interpersonal skills are required along with the heart and passion to work with older adults while providing the best care possibleAbility to read, interpret, and clearly follow directives.Must have the ability to remain calm in stressful situations, to be flexible, to work well with many interruptions and have skill in multi-taskingRespect for the principles of resident rights and confidentialityTravelTravel is not required.Physical DemandsTo excel in this role, it is crucial for the employee to be prepared for the possibility of working with residents who may exhibit disruptive behaviors, including verbal or physical contact issues. The physical demands outlined below are indicative of those essential for job performance, and reasonable accommodations can be arranged to facilitate individuals with disabilities in carrying out these vital functions. In the course of performing job duties, the employee will routinely engage in activities such as sitting, standing, walking, using hands to handle and feel, reaching with hands and arms, talking, and hearing. Additionally, there may be occasional requirements for crouching and lifting items weighing up to 50lbs. The employee's specific vision abilities should encompass the capacity to see both near and far distances.
