Job Overview: Under the supervision of the RN, the Patient Care Technician (PCT) performs various care activities and related services necessary in caring for the personal needs, comfort and safety of a specific patient population (ANA Standards of Delegation, 2004). The employee must be able to successfully complete job specific orientation, competencies, and meet/exceed standards as identified in the criteria based performance appraisal. PCTs must demonstrate awareness of patients' rights in all aspects of patient care and report issues to the appropriate person. The PCT demonstrates leadership through coordination of unit equipment and activities. Communicates to the RN pertinent findings or observations noted while providing patient care and comfort. Assist professional staff with basic life support principles. Unit Description: The Heart Floor at The Heart Hospital at Deaconess Gateway is a 24 bed unit devoted to the care of Cardiovascular Thoracic Medical and Surgical patients. Every room is hard wired for monitoring critical patients if needed. The Heart Floor cares for patient conditions including Myocardial Infarctions, Chest Pain, PTCA’s, Open Heart Surgery, AAA, Carotids, Thoracic, CRRT, etc. There are three levels of Care on the floor identified as Telemetry, Step-Down and Critical Care. The highly specialized Open Heart population stays in the same room from admission through discharge eliminating the need for transfers. This allows them to begin extensive Cardiac Rehabilitation before ever leaving the hospital. Required: Certifications/Licenses/Education: Basic Life Support: Health Care Provider, within six months of hire. Completion of a high school education or equivalent (GED) preferred Successfully complete PCT classes as required by care center/unit.
