The Team You’ll Work WithThe Mayor’s Office of City Legislative Affairs serves as the principal liaison between Mayor Eric AdamsAdministration and the New York City Council. City Legislative Affairs works toward the goal offostering productive relationships between the executive and legislative branches and assists theMayor’s Administration in: shaping public policy; developing and advancing theAdministration’s agenda through local law, the budget, and land use; negotiating City Councillegislation; and preparing agencies for City Council public hearings.The Problems You’ll SolveSenior Legislative Representatives are each assigned a portfolio of City Council committees and areresponsible for all legislation, oversight hearings, and member requests from their respectivecommittees. The Representative also acts as a liaison between the Mayor’s Office and the agenciesthat fall within each respective committee. The Representative also facilitates and approves meetingsbetween City Council members and Agency officials and Commissioners. Duties of a Senior LegislativeRepresentative include:- Tracking legislation introduced by the City Council and monitoring its progress as itmoves through the legislative process.- Working with agencies in reviewing and preparing legislation.- Working with agencies in crafting a response to City Council legislation and oversighthearings and preparing testimony.- Preparing written analyses of legislation.- Drafting mayoral bill-signing statements and correspondence.- Overseeing junior analysts.- Facilitating interactions between the City Council and the Administration, includingresponding to requests from members and staff in a timely manner.About You- You have experience working in government preferred, prior experience withadministration and procurement.- You have a Bachelor’s Degree required. Graduate degree (JD/MPA/MS) preferred.- You have demonstrated understanding of and experience with any combination of thefollowing: the local legislative process, public policy analysis, New York City agencyoperations, and lobbying.- You have excellent written, oral, and interpersonal skills along with a strong work ethic andthe ability to work independently are imperative.Special Assistant (MA)-MGRL - AMinimum Qualifications- You have a Bachelor’s Degree required.Public Service Loan ForgivenessAs a prospective employee of the City of New York, you may be eligible for federal loan forgiveness programs and state repayment assistance programs.
