The position will be at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin August 2024. We are seeking a biologist focused on Global Health and Non-Communicable Disease who is committed to exemplifying the teacher-scholar model. We seek someone with research expertise related to human health at any level of biological organization, including cellular and molecular perspectives, in support of the Biology Department’s and programs. The successful candidate will demonstrate potential to teach undergraduate biology courses at the introductory and upper-division levels, with options including BIOL 207 Genetics, Ecology and Evolution, BIOL 208 Biological Communication & Energetics, a 300-level course in the candidate’s area of expertise, and a 400-level capstone course including BIOL 474 Seminar in Global Health or BIOL 462 Molecular Biology. We particularly value teaching practices/courses that integrate diversity, inclusion, social justice, global perspectives, and community engaged learning. We seek someone who will establish a vibrant, high-quality research program that has the potential to be competitive for external funding and that will prominently involve undergraduates of all experience levels and from diverse backgrounds. We are also seeking someone with potential to contribute to interdisciplinary endeavors at the university, including the and the collaborative research program, and to connect to the broader community. QUALIFICATIONS MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS A Ph.D. (U.S. or foreign equivalent) in Biology, Global Health, or closely related field, or, alternatively ABD candidates nearing completion of the Ph.D. will be fully considered, with the initial appointment to be made at the rank of Instructor. A letter of application (cover letter) that addresses the applicants long-term teaching, research, and service goals. A curriculum vitae. A completed reference section of the application that provides contact information for three professional references. No references will be contacted without first getting the permission of the candidate. Candidates who advance in the search will be asked to submit recommendation letters. A 2-page description of short and long-term research goals, including how they relate to undergraduate experiences. A 2-page statement of teaching philosophy that includes description of potential for inclusive classroom practices, including discussion of courses the candidate would be interested in teaching A 1-page diversity statement that describes experiences and approaches to support diverse student populations.
