Overview Provides clinical nutrition services, including nutrition assessment, modified diet formulation, self-management training and nutrition intervention to patients. Monitors patients on modified diets, tube feedings and supplemental feeding, and initiates appropriate changes as needed. Ensures patient satisfaction, quality care, regulatory agency compliance, and good public relations are achieved through the safe and efficient use of resources. QualificationsEDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT Must possess a baccalaureate or post-baccalaureate degree received from American colleges or universities which held accreditation, at the time the degree was conferred, from accepted regional educational accrediting associations as reported by the American Association of Collegiate Registrar and Admissions Officers which includes a minimum of 24 semester hours from the fields of human nutrition, food, and nutrition, dietetics, or food systems management, or an equivalent major course of study as may be approved by the Board. A substantial equivalent major course of study shall be defined as either:(1) A baccalaureate or post-baccalaureate degree including a minimum of 30 semester hours specifically designated to train a person to apply and integrate scientific principles of human nutrition under different health, social, cultural, physical, psychological and economic conditions to the proper nourishment, care and education of individuals or groups through the life cycle. Of these 30 semester hours, a minimum of 18 semester hours must be from human nutrition, food, and nutrition, dietetics, or food systems management; or(2) A baccalaureate or post-baccalaureate degree including a major course of study meeting the minimum academic requirements to qualify for examination by the Commission. After meeting the academic requirements a person applying for licensure must be registry eligible with the Commission on Dietetic Registration by having completed an internship or pre-planned professional experience program approved by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) or enrolled and within three (3) months of completing an ACEND approved internship or pre-planned professional experience program.EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT None required.COMPUTER SKILLSAn individual should know Database software; Inventory software; Order processing systems; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS Must possess a valid driver's license with a driving history verified through a motor vehicle report that meets requirements for Cherokee Nation underwriting rating.Must be a Registered Dietitian (RD) and maintain a license (LD) from the Oklahoma Board of Medical Licensure and Supervision OR be registered and licensure eligible pending Board approval. If a Registered Dietitian (RD) is transitioning from Provisional Licensure (PLD) to a Licensed Dietitian (LD) they must have a temporary letter authorizing practice under general supervision issued by the Oklahoma State Medical Board. Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES) preferred. Must also maintain cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification.OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES Must know about computers, audio/video equipment. OTHER QUALIFICATIONSThe employee must not be and will not be under sanction by the United States Department of Health and Human Services Office of the Inspector General (OIG) or by the General Services Administration (GSA) or listed on the OIG's Cumulative Sanction Report, or the GSA's List of Excluded Providers, or listed on the OIG's List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE). Must meet and maintain pre-employment and periodic background investigation and adjudication for child care. Educated on and compliant with HIPAA regulations; maintains strict confidentiality of client information.PHYSICAL DEMANDS While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and taste or smell. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.WORK ENVIRONMENT While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals. The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; outside weather conditions and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.Routine duties shall include providing health care services to individuals eligible for services in accordance with the self-governance compact and funding agreement between the Cherokee Nation and the United States executed under the authority of the Indian Self-Determination and Education Assistance Act. Practices only within the boundaries of their competence, based on their documented education, training, supervised experience, state and national professional credentials, and appropriate professional experience. Maintains knowledge and skills required for continuing professional competence. Uses parameters such as anthropometric measurements, visual assessment and interpretation of laboratory values along with information gathered from the patient or family members, members of the health care team, patient history and other data found in the patient medical charts to develop a nutrition care plan. Maintains documentation of nutrition care, counseling, and any follow-up documentation in the patient electronic medical record. Provides follow-up evaluation/reassessment of patient response to nutrition intervention/education. Monitors enteral nutrition care and initiates appropriate changes. Collaborates with multidisciplinary team members during the assessment and monitoring of a patient on parenteral nutrition care. Incorporates current evidence-based research into practice. Adheres to facility confidentiality, HIPAA regulations, and patient rights policies. Complies with regulatory agency standards, including federal, state, and DNV as evidenced by daily tallies, monthly reports, and bi-monthly chart audits. Completes all required documentation, reports, and logs in a timely, professional and thorough manner. Communicates effectively with all team members, patients, and families to ensure patient nutritional needs are met and problems and delays are minimized. Takes reasonable action to inform a client's physician and any appropriate allied health care provider in cases where a client's nutritional status indicates a change in medical status. Attends and participates in scheduled meetings and multidisciplinary patient care meetings; including but not limited to daily rounds with surgeons and/or hospitalist and discharge planning. Utilizes a diet manual for register and modified diets. Follows facility and department infection control policies and procedures. Reads and complies with all policies and procedures of the Cherokee Nation and facility. Presents themselves in clean, tidy, business casual attire, wearing name tag identification at all times and lab coat when on the floors. Follows the facility's protocols for Hazardous Materials and Waste Program. Participates in disaster and fire drills as appropriate. Identifies, plans, and receives continuing education adapted to the cultural, social and economic conditions of the service population. Adheres to professional ethical standards as established by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and the Commission on Dietetic Registration. Plans, conducts or participates in and interprets, evaluates and utilizes pertinent current research related to nutritional care. Complies with the provisions of the Oklahoma Controlled Substances Act. Complies with the applicable state and federal regulations regarding the security, safety, and confidentiality of any health services record they create, maintain, transfer, or destroy whether the record is written, taped, computerized, or stored in any other medium. Maintains verifiable records at an institution or facility that has a published records retention policy that is equal to or exceeds the retention required by federal and/or state regulations. Maintains the confidentiality of any information received from any person or source about a client, unless authorized in writing by the client or otherwise authorized or required by law or court order. Notifies the Oklahoma State Board of Medical Licensure and Supervision within thirty (30) days of any change in address, telephone number, and employment and shall supply an updated copy to Cherokee Nation Human Resources. Renews licenses or certifications and specialty designations before the expiration date. Provides Cherokee Nation Human Resources with a copy of all licensures, certifications, renewal of licensures and certifications upon receipt thereof. Maintains HIPAA compliance and confidentiality at all times and protects all personal health information as it relates to patient data.
