In addition to intraoperative duties, the surgical assistant also performs preoperative and postoperative duties to better facilitate proper patient care. The surgical assistant uses effective interdisciplinary communication to facilitate optimal patient outcomes.The Surgical Assistant III participates in the development and annual review of unit based clinical orientation guide; demonstrates proficiency in advanced skills (Examples may include: Performs harvesting of veins, proper preparation of an ACL graft, preparation of surgical mesh etc.); and serves as a mentor and role model to students, new employees, and fellow staff.Demonstrates in depth clinical and technical skills in 3 surgical specialties and outstanding performance in 1 to 2 specialties with documented recognition by provider or leader.
