Overview Weapons maintenance technicians are responsible for servicing and maintaining the Military’s weapons. They ensure these assets are fully operational at all times. These experts plan, organize, and perform every service necessary to keep these systems in pristine working condition so they are ready when needed. Military Training All enlisted service members complete basic military training, which includes time spent in a classroom and in the field, and covers tactical and survival skills, physical training, military life and customs, and weapons training. Weapons maintenance technicians in the Military will gain skills through classroom study and on-the-job experience. Job-specific training content may include: Electronic and mechanical principles and conceptsUse and understanding of schematics, drawings, blueprints, and wiring diagramsOperation, testing, and maintenance of weapons systems and fire control systemsOperation, use, and maintenance of electronic, electrical, and mechanical test equipmentPrinciples and concepts of electronics and mechanicsEquipment repair Helpful Attributes Ability to do work requiring accuracy and attention to detail Interest in working with electronic or electrical equipment Interest in working with weapon systems Related Civilian Careers Helpers--Installation, Maintenance and Repair Workers Hazardous Materials Removal Workers Machinists Electrical and Electronics Installers and Repairers, Transportation Equipment Control and Valve Installers and Repairers, Except Mechanical Door Maintenance Workers, Machinery Industrial Machinery Mechanics Mobile Heavy Equipment Mechanics, Except Engines
