As a Cook at PMC, the Cook has the opportunity to showcase a range of cooking techniques - including roasting, broiling, sauteing, grilling, baking pastries, sauce creation, and cold food preparation. Attention to detail in every dish created perfection in presentation and taste is a must. PMC strives to meet residents' nutritional, dietary, and allergen needs in compliance with Federal, State and Local requirements while using high quality, fresh ingredients.ResponsibilitiesUse of culinary experience to follow menus and prepare dishesOrganize duties to complete tray service in a timely mannerAssure kitchen equipment and surfaces are clean and sanitized according to Dietary proceduresStore food in compliance with Dietary proceduresQualifications for All CooksAbility to understand and follow instructions, communicate effectively, and perform simple arithmeticPrefer two (2) years of experience as a cook in healthcare, hotel, restaurant, club or similar institutionAbility to understand measurements and conversionsAbility to plan and organize work, to interpret instructions, recipes, specifications, and standardsKnowledge of kitchen equipmentQualifications for Cook 1Requires a Food Handlers CardReceives on-the-job training regarding cooking skillsQualifications for Cook 2Requires ServSafe Certification and Food Handlers CardRequires Cook 1 level experience / trainingQualifications for Cook 3Requires culinary training (example: University of Alaska Culinary Course for Enthusiasts) - to include knife skills, cutting techniques, cooking techniques, culinary terminology, equipment identification, and ability to read recipes and understand substitutions or equivalentRequires Cook level 2 training / experience / CertificationPhysical DemandsWork requires standing for most of the shift. Includes lifting, bending, squatting, reaching, and carrying heavy items (up to 50 pounds)Handles and manipulates equipment, assists in the preparation of foodWork EnvironmentWorks in a clean, well-lit, and ventilated kitchen. Loud noises and temperature variations are normalNormal kitchen hazards, i.e., potential for cuts, burns, etc.Requirements for EmploymentBackground Check. Must be able to pass a State of Alaska background check.Drug Screen. Must be able to successfully complete a drug screening which includes testing for marijuana.Vaccine Compliance.
