Job Summary/Basic Function The Waidner-Spahr Library Fellowship is an excellent opportunity for a college (4-year or 2-year) graduate to explore the multi-faceted profession of librarianship. The Fellow will support essential library functions by working with two or more teams across the library (e.g. Access Services; Archives & Special Collections; Collections & Resources; Research & Instruction). Specific departments and projects will be assigned based on the fellow's interest and experience, and the needs of the library. An emphasis will be placed on projects and initiatives supporting the experience of Dickinson's undergraduate student population, as well as those that advance one or more library values (e.g. DEI; access to information; community of practice; pursuits of inquiry; scholarly communication). This position will also support library promotion and outreach activities including, but not limited to student research awards, pre- and new student orientation, trivia nights, etc. The fellowship appointment is for one year and will be eligible to extend for a second year.Essential Functions:
Supports and engages in essential library services (e.g. research consultations; circulation desk; resource discovery; organization of archival materials), in two or more library teams. Includes becoming familiar with library systems (e.g. Alma ILS circulation functions; SpringShare suite; Dickinson Scholar institutional repository, various library databases) and/or library resources (e.g. subject-specific databases; print and online collections; Archives & Special Collections). Collaboratively develops and implements events, exhibits, programs, or services that directly support the Dickinson student experience with the library. This may include, but is not limited to, leading our pre-orientation program for incoming new students and recruiting students employed for the library's Information Literacy Badge Program. Supports library promotion and outreach activities including special library events, student research awards, and co-curricular experiences for the Dickinson community. Provides excellent patron-centered services through in-person and online service points. These may be direct such as circulation desk interactions and reference assistance; or indirect such as maintaining the library's FAQ knowledge base, updating online tutorials, and/or research guides. Engages with issues and trends in profession by participating in webinars, regional meetings, and/or national conferences. Engages with professional literature and communities. Participates in assessment of library services and programs within one or more functional areas assigned. This may include quantitative and/or qualitative data collection and analysis, collaborating with the Quantitative Reasoning Center, assisting in preparing reports for the Dean of Library Services and/or other campus audiences. Contributes to the achievement of shared library goals through participation on library task forces and committees. Preferred Qualifications Required:
Associate's Degree
Less than 12 months experience
Preferred:
Bachelor's Degree
A valid Driver's Licence is required. Employees (operators) must have been in possession of a valid operator's license for not less than three (3) years and the license must have been in good standing without interruption during that time period. No Successful candidate will also be required to complete ACT 153 Clearance No This position is considered "Emergency Staff."
