The Athletic Trainer Supervisor provides leadership and management of athletic training services to the NCAA Division III program in accordance with Pennsylvania Practice Act, established by the state board of medicine with the goal of optimizing athletic performance, injury prevention, rehabilitation, and student-athlete wellness. This position will serve as the direct supervisor for the athletic training, sports medicine, and conditioning staff, serve as the primary athletic trainer for a set number of teams, and reports directly to the Director of Athletics and will participate as part of the athletics leadership team. Penn State Altoona currently has approximately Student Athletes across varsity teams currently and expanding. Penn State Altoona is a Division III school and competes in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference. RESPONSIBILITIES In collaboration with team physicians, prevent, diagnosis, and treat emergency, acute, and chronic medical conditions involving impairment, functional limitations, and disabilities as defined by the NATADetermine the treatment/rehabilitation needed for athletic injuries/illness and the athletes’ readiness to participate including pre-participation and post-injury/illness returnSupervise the organization, implementation, and review of a comprehensive injury prevention and performance enhancement programs for intercollegiate athletic teams, and club sportsProvide athletic training services for athletic events including games, practices, and strength and conditioning sessionsResearch current methods of treatment and oversee adherence for required certifications and staff continuing educationServe as an educational resource for matters related to Sports Medicine and Athletic Training for personnel internal to and affiliated with the UniversityPerform all aspects of health care administration including maintaining medical records, scheduling health care appointments, and ensure open lines of collaboration and communication with health care professionals and athletic staffRecognize and monitor mental health, nutrition, and other health issues student athletes may be experiencing and refer to appropriate professional for intervention if appropriateAssist in the education and supervision of Graduate Student Athletic TrainersOversee and coordinate student athlete entrance and exit physicalsContribute to the development of an environment for student-athletes that is healthy, safe, equitable, and inclusiveMay supervise staff members, including hiring, development, and performance managementMINIMUM EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE & REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONSIf filled as Athletic Trainer - Supervisor, this position requires: Master's Degree 3+ years of relevant experience Required Certifications: Licensed Athletic Trainer - Pennsylvania State Board of Medicine Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) - National Athletic Trainers Association Board of Certification Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification - American Red Cross, American Heart Association or other accredited organization Automated External Defibrillator (AED) Certification - American Red Cross, American Heart Association or other accredited organization If filled as Athletic Trainer - Senior Supervisor, this position requires: Master's Degree 6+ years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience accepted Required Certifications: Automated External Defibrillator (AED) Certification - American Red Cross, American Heart Association or other accredited organization Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification - American Red Cross, American Heart Association or other accredited organization Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) - National Athletic Trainers Association Board of Certification Licensed Athletic Trainer - Pennsylvania State Board of MedicineADDITIONAL INFORMATION This is a -month position.
