Internships with the UGA Athletic Association are a -month appointment starting July 1, 6 ending on June , 7. Applicant review will begin in December and offers will be made in January. Duties/Responsibilities Duties/Responsibilities Recognition, Evaluation and Management of Athletic Injuries:1. Serve as athletic trainer for team(s) specified by director of sports medicinea. Includes practice and competition coverage as well as travel responsibilities2. Coordinate and supervise medical care for athletes as assigned by director of sports medicine3. Initial assessment and treatment of athletic injuries4. Physician referral as appropriatea. Regular communication with primary care team physicianb. Communication with specialty team physicians as appropriate5. Casting and splinting6. Wound care, including removal of sutures and staples on MD order7. Diagnostic testing appointments8. Physician appointments9. Use of therapeutic modalities and exercise Percentage of time Duties/Responsibilities Organization and Administration:1. Maintain confidential medical records in Presagia system2. Collect and apply Fusionetics data3. Coordinate concussion testing protocol4. Collaborate for athletic event medical coverage Percentage of time Duties/Responsibilities Rehabilitation of Athletic Injuries:1. Development and implementation of structured rehabilitation programs under MD supervisiona. Coordinate physician re-checksb. Participate in rehabilitation progress updates weeklyc. Maintain appropriate communication with supervising physicians2. Development of rehabilitation protocolsa. Coordinate rehabilitation director of rehabilitation3. Use of therapeutic modalities and exercise4. Coordination of physician re-checks5. Isokinetic testing6. Aquatic rehabilitation Percentage of time Duties/Responsibilities Prevention of Athletic Injuries:1. Pre-participation physical examinationsa. Assist in planning, scheduling, and coordinating pre-participation physical examinations for student-athletesb. Participate in post-physical physician meetingsc. Coordinate and schedule required follow-up testing from physicals2. Preventative maintenance rehabilitation programs3. Fitness assessments; physical conditioning of athletes4. Fitting of protective equipment5. Fabrication of tape, braces, and special pads6. Casting/molding for custom foot orthotics 7. flexibility programs8. Athletic injury education2. Fitness and strength and conditioning education3. Injury prevention education4. Nutritional counseling and referral to RD as appropriate5. Counseling and referral to sports psychologist as appropriate6. Athletic training and sports medicine presentations7. Minimum Qualifications Position Summary Supervise and coordinate athletic training services for student-athletes participating in intercollegiate athletic programs for the University of Georgia Athletic Association, working under the medical direction of team physicians and in conjunction with referring physicians, other ancillary medical professionals, and UGAAA staff: including but not limited to athletic training, athletic administration, athletic coaching, strength and conditioning, sports nutrition, counseling/sports psychology, academics. Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification in Position Requires technical knowledge in the field acquired through an apprenticeship, a 2-year degree, or professional certificate.
