PeopleNewspapers is looking for an editor/writer/leader who can cover sports (mostly high school) for our Park Cities People and Preston Hollow People newspapers, plus a joint website, and a weekly Sports Spotlight newsletter. Reporting to the editor, this role ensures that sports content is timely, accurate, and engaging for readers. THIS IS NOT A FULL-TIME POSITION. For a monthly stipend of $1,450, this journalist is expected to cover Scots football games, arrange for coverage of other games and schools, produce a couple of football preview sections each year, write five (500-word) features a month for print, make multiple weekly online posts to the website, and manage other freelancers, who take photographs and cover competitions the sports editor cannot. Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or a related field (extensive experience considered in lieu of a degree) At least two years of experience covering sports for a news organization Strong editorial judgment and meticulous attention to detail The ability to work independently and meet deadlines Familiarity with online publishing and social media Familiarity with the Park Cities and Preston Hollow markets (preferred) Proficiency with WordPress (preferred) Note: This job description outlines essential responsibilities and qualifications.
