Horizons at Episcopal Academy Assistant TeacherThe PositionHorizons at The Episcopal Academy (HEA) seeks a dedicated and enthusiastic Assistant Teacher to inspire a lifelong love of learning in children. This summer position runs from June 22 – July 30, 2026, and is ideal for a passionate, collaborative educator who embraces the Horizons mission and contributes to a joyful, inclusive, and academically engaging learning environment. The Assistant Teacher works closely with the Lead Teacher, Reading and Math Specialists, and a Counselor, and is supported by the Executive Director. Horizons values continuity and encourages staff to return for multiple summers to help strengthen the program and community.Key ResponsibilitiesBefore the Summer Program:Attend orientation and required professional development sessions.Collaborate with the Lead Teacher and Program Leaders, as needed, to design and prepare high-quality, culturally responsive, project-based curriculum in language arts, math, and science for the six-week summer enrichment programDuring the Summer Program:Assist in planning community-building activities and experiential learning opportunities.Support classroom instruction in whole-group, small-group, and one-on-one settings.Build on students' academic strengths and help address individual learning needs.Accompany and support students during swim lessons, field trips, meals, and recess.Attend weekly faculty meetings and contribute to a safe, respectful, challenging, and fun learning environment.Assist in evaluating student progress and program effectiveness.Maintain consistent communication with families.Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by HEA.Skills and QualificationsCompletion of all required state and federal clearances; CPR/AED certification required.Commitment to Horizons' mission and educational equity.Knowledge of instructional best practices and willingness to learn and grow.Flexibility, strong organization, initiative, and enthusiasm for teaching and learning.Ability to relate to children and families from diverse racial, cultural, religious, and neurodiverse backgrounds.Interest or experience in classroom management, social-emotional learning, and fostering noncognitive skills such as focus, perseverance, empathy, and self-discipline.Commitment to understanding systemic impacts on the families and communities served, and to ongoing personal growth and reflection.About Horizons at Episcopal AcademyHEA is a community-centered education program serving students from the Greater Philadelphia area.
