Primary Purpose

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Posses' a general knowledge of both custodial practices and procedures as well as grounds maintenance for athletic fields, playgrounds, school sites, shrubs and general landscape and pest control Ability to accurately interpret plans and specifications in order to determine square footage cleaning capacities. Knowledge of safety requirements for maintenance services of buildings, equipment, and grounds

Experience:

Minimum of five (5) years of experience housekeeping and grounds preferred Experience in managerial responsibilities for planning work methods and schedules, as well as the preparation of specifications and bid packets that seek materials and supplies used in the housekeeping and grounds industries

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Custodial and Grounds Management

Oversee an effective program that encompasses housekeeping and grounds care. Work with all levels of district administrators to ensure that district facilities comply with regulatory agencies and satisfies our requirements for the cleanliness and safety of students and staff. Communicate with building administrators regarding problems and issues relative to housekeeping and grounds. Assist in the preparation of department budget. Review daily and annual expenditures for housekeeping, grounds, and pest control activities to maintain a balance among costs and services. Develop and approve work schedules and procedures that achieve maximum performance in these areas.Make work assignments and arrange for substitute custodians. Approve (initially) the procurement of tools, parts, supplies, and equipment for each area. Establish procedures and programs to minimize the cost of services relative to housekeeping, grounds, and pest control. Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents as required including maintaining accurate information for payroll reporting (timecards, tardiness, and absenteeism). Inspect all district buildings and facilities and schedule cleaning and repairs as needed. Provide training and orientation to all custodians related to cleaning procedures and the safe and proper use of chemicals and equipment. Coordinate the moving and delivery of district furniture, equipment, and other heavy or bulky materials. Direct the setup of facilities for special events.

Safety

Develop and approve the forms used for monthly inspections of buildings and grounds. Establish an inspection procedure to detect needed follow-up in housekeeping, grounds and pest control. Follow safety guidelines as listed in the Maintenance and Operations Services Departmental safety manual. Maintain safety standards in accordance with federal, state, district, and insurance regulations and make sure that all personnel are trained on proper and safe use of equipment and chemicals. Available on short notice for emergency and overtime work. Correct unsafe conditions in work area and promptly report any conditions that are not immediately correctable to supervisor. Follow established procedures for locking, checking, and safeguarding facilities. Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.

Inventory and Equipment

Evaluate and recommend supplies and equipment to be used. Prepare, implement, and maintain preventive maintenance schedules. Ensure maintenance is completed and equipment is in safe operating condition. Recommend replacement of existing equipment when necessary. Conduct regular inventory of physical equipment and supplies and maintain accurate records. Order tools, equipment, and supplies as needed.

Other

Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures. Maintain an appropriate level of technology competence to meet the current and future needs of Alief.  Implement alternative methods of instruction as needed. Perform other duties as assigned

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Supervise and evaluate assigned employees, while serving as the second line officer in matters relative to discipline and suspension.

Evaluation

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of Professional Supervisor Personnel.
