Description Under supervision of the Community Services Supervisor, performs a wide variety of nonhazardous police and law enforcement duties, including tele-service, staffing of the department complaint desk, and responding to Patrol-based calls for service.   This class is characterized by the use of independent judgment in responding to non-emergency situations.  Requires proven Customer Service skills. Performs other work as required.   Examples of Duties Responds to non-hazardous calls regarding not-in-progress minor crime reports.  This response can involve taking reports over the telephone or responding to the scene.  May provide emergency medical assistance in non-crime incidents pending arrival of a sworn police officer, controls traffic, and otherwise ensures attention is given to general public service.Promotes crime prevention by initiating contact with businesses and residences, including explaining applicable laws, soliciting cooperation in crime reporting, and otherwise creating a good rapport with area citizens.Assists police officers in any nonhazardous situation which does not involve a physical apprehension and may be utilized for nonhazardous area searches and perimeters.Mans the police department complaint desk, fields walk-in citizen complaints and reports, controls citizen access from the lobby into the interior of the building, provides general information to persons entering the police facility and directs them to the appropriate department function to answer their needs, provides assistance to the communications section on a need basis.Prepares a variety of daily and other reports related to crimes, accidents, and other duties.  Maintains logs, completes forms, and prepares reports as requested.Issues parking citations, and assists sworn officers in other parking enforcement and/or control matters. Inspect vehicles which were issued equipment defects and sign off citations. Counsels those seeking help and assists them to determine the most appropriate resources. Performs inventory on paperwork (all incident reports) used by Department. Sorting of all department mail including inter-office, U.P.S., and regular mail. Notifies officers of Court information from state attorney's office. Delivers City Council packages.Makes copies of forms that are not printed outside department. Transports vehicles to Fleet Maintenance. Computer data entry and retrieval. Answers phones, takes messages for staff, and gives information. Completes other duties as assigned.  Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or GED. (Proof of education must be uploaded with application). Minimum 3 years of customer service experience, military service or law enforcement related experience. Licenses, Certifications or Registrations: Must possess and maintain a valid State of Florida driver’s license.  Applicants may possess a valid out of state driver's license and obtain the Florida license within 10 days of employment.Corrections certification preferred. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of police principles and practices. Knowledge of applicable laws and precedents. Knowledge of City and State ordinances that apply to their position. Knowledge of the procedures, duties and responsibilities of the unit of operation to which assigned. Knowledge of English, spelling, and arithmetic & ability to apply/use it. Knowledge and ability to maintain officer safety and maintain situational awareness. Ability to investigate situations and to prepare written reports. Ability to make oral presentations. Skill in dealing tactfully and effectively with citizens in a wide variety of stressful situations. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other agencies, employees and the general public. Ability to work various schedules including days, evenings, midnights, weekends, and holidays. Physical and Mental Requirements: Ability to see, read, hear, write and speak the English language. Ability to analyze information and formulate decisions. Ability to lift up to 20 lbs. to and from overhead level. Ability to operate a motor vehicle in a safe and efficient manner. Ability to use hands, wrists, and fingers as used to operate a computer keyboard. Ability to sit or stand for up to two (2) hours at one time. Ability to stand and direct traffic for extended periods of time. Ability to work in inclement weather.  Ability to access, navigate, utilize, and search databases
