The New York State Legislature passed Kendra’s law as an amendment to the Mental Hygiene Law to allow for outpatient civil commitment of individuals with histories of serious mental illness, difficulty engaging in rehabilitation, and who present high risk to themselves or the community. The program enables these individuals to live safely in the community, avoid repeated inpatient hospitalizations, and ensure they have access to comprehensive outpatient services.Position Summary: Provide Clinical expertise specific to AOT cases in order to enhance the skills, knowledge, and abilities of the AOT case monitor and support staff to intervene on complex AOT cases.Job Duties and Responsibilities: Working under the supervision of the Deputy Director of Quality Improvement or Deputy Director of AOT Administration, you will:- Provide guidance to all AOT Case Monitors, AOT Social Work Supervisors, and Assistant Directors on clinical issues on difficult cases.- Attend case conferences with case monitors and/or social work supervisors as needed, but particularly on difficult cases or cases where consumers have had two or more SERs in a six-month period.- Assist case monitors, supervisors, and psychiatrists in the preparation of treatment plans by providing recommendations for resources in cases when previous referrals have not been successful and focusing on the clinical needs of the consumer.- Interface with mental health providers and families to provide technical assistance with consumers’ engagement and adherence with court mandated mental health treatment.- Assess the quality and appropriateness of care planned and provided.- Review untoward events through the monitoring of services and provision of support to Care Coordinators, Assertive Community Treatment teams, and other mental health providers and work with Quality Improvement to develop plans to prevent such incidents.- Participate in Quality Improvement reviews and special projects to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of AOT.- Provide coverage as needed when SW Supervisors and/or Asst. A Master's Degree in Social Work from an accredited school of social work and three years of full-time satisfactory experience practicing social work utilizing one, or a combination of, casework, group work and community organization methodologies, at least two years of which must have been in a supervisory capacity.2. Certification/License Requirements: A valid Certified Social Worker (CSW) certificate or Licensed Master of Social Work license (LMSW) issued by the New York State Department of Education must be obtained within one year of the date of appointment.
