Job Summary: Prepares and processes tissue samples for routine histologic techniques to be examined under a microscope by a pathologist. The histologic techniques include the following: fixation, processing, embedding, microtomy, and staining of tissue for the pathologist evaluation and diagnosis.Job RequirementsIn addition to bringing your whole self to the workplace each day, qualified candidates will need the following: Required Education and Experience:Opt 1: Successful completion of an accredited Histotechnician or Histotechnologist programOpt 2: HS and 60 college/university semester hrs, with a combination of 12 hrs biology and chemistry (must include both) AND one year full time acceptable experience in a histopathology laboratory within the last 5 years including fixation, embedding, microtomy, processing and staining.Opt 3: Associates degree with a combination of 12 hrs biology and chemistry (must include both) AND one year full time acceptable experience in a histopathology laboratory within the last 5 years including fixation, embedding, microtomy, processing and staining.Opt 4: Will consider candidates with High School diploma and two or more years of experience in all areas of routine histology in lieu of academic credit/degree and/or certificationPreferred Education and Certifications:Associate degree and successful completion of an accredited Histotechnician programAND/ORHistotechnician certification, HT, by American Society of Clinical PathologyRequired Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Training: Detail-oriented with the ability to multitask and prioritize duties.Physical, Exertion, and Sensory - MediumWhere You'll WorkAt CommonSpirit Mountain Region, we believe in the healing power of humanity and serving the common good through our dedicated work and shared mission to celebrate humankindness. Become an integral part of our highly skilled and supportive Histology team at Penrose Hospital.
