Custodial Training Specialist

Position Summary:
The Custodial Training Specialist is responsible for planning, developing, conducting, evaluating and reviewing the training program for UH&D Custodial Services department. This position exercises functional and administrative supervision over custodial personnel to provide coverage as needed.
Specific Job Duties & Tasks:
Conducts training needs analysis, identifies gaps and develops improvement plan. Periodically evaluates available data to identify operational best practices and/or process improvements. Serve as subject matter expert for UI and departmental policies, procedures, safety practices, equipment and cleaning product utilization. Ensure mandatory training and other compliance requirements are completed as scheduled. Plan and develop training techniques and programs for the Custodial Department to ensure health and safety, efficiencies and meet University standards. Research all employee work related injuries and submit incident reports/forms. Develop and implement an annual training calendar. Orient and train new/transferring employees to department utilizing approved cleaning methods and department policies/procedures.For a detailed job description, please email Alaysia McAtee at

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience is necessary. Typically, a minimum of 3 years related custodial experience and hands on training/instructional experience. Valid driver's license and ability to meet UI Fleet Safety Standards. ISSA Certified Trainer Certification or ability to complete and pass the course within 12 months of employment (travel may be required). Excellent written and verbal communication skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office, Outlook, Word, Excel and basic internet/intranet usage. Ability to work alternate shifts as needed. Ability to work effectively with a variety of individuals at all organizational levels. Strong organizational, problem-solving, analytical, interpersonal skills and the ability to manage competing priorities and workflow. Experience working in a professional setting while exhibiting a high level of confidentiality and ability to maintain high working standards.Desired Qualifications:
5 years or more of related custodial experience and hands on training/instructional experience. Knowledge of cleaning in alignment with UI health and safety requirements. Experience with recognizing and adapting teaching methodologies to various adult training needs. Knowledge of applicable University policies, collective bargaining and union agreements and relevant federal, state and OSHA regulation. Familiarity with a computerized maintenance management system (TMA), IRIS and StarRez applications. Experience developing training materials, guides and manuals using applications, Power Point, Flowcharts.Application Details:
