About the TeamThe AP Curriculum and Assessment Team at College Board (90+ staff) collaborates with colleagues across all aspects of the AP Program to develop, manage, and deliver AP’s 40+ courses in a wide variety of subject areas. AP® is a rigorous academic program built on the commitment, passion, and hard work of students and educators from secondary schools and higher education. AP provides willing and academically prepared high school students with the opportunity to study and learn at the college level. AP’scourse expertsensure that course curricula are aligned to higher education expectations and reflect the state of the art in the discipline, contribute to instructional resources and tools for teachers, and develop assessments that allow students in these courses todemonstratetheir mastery of course content and skills.APleads in strategic use of AI to expand student access, strengthen instructional design and professional support, and enhanceassessmentcreation and exam analysis.The English, World Languages, and Arts department, which includes English Literature, English Language, Spanish Language, Italian Language, French Language, German Language, Chinese Language, Japanese Language, Latin, Music Theory, Spanish Literature, and Art and Design is currently made up of28people supporting 14 courses in the AP portfolio.About the OpportunityAs theDirectorI, APFrench Language and Cultureyouwillbe responsible forpreserving and improving the quality and validity of the AP Program’s core deliverables within the subject domain: theexam, thecourse curriculum, and the professional development content.You are also responsible for item development and management from authoring to administration; training and collaborating with subject-matter experts (SMEs), typically college professors and secondary school teachers.Youwillethicallyand effectivelyintegrateAItechnologiesinassessmentcreation andreview. Thisincludesjudiciouslyusing AIassistedtools to support fairness, validity, and innovation in AP assessments.You willtrain SMEs on assessment development protocols, translate between academics and technical experts (psychometricians), and collaborate to develop formative assessment materials and resources to support APFrench Language and Cultureteachers worldwide.You will serve as a point of contact in AP for committees and communities of subject-matter experts and will be responsible for thecurriculumand assessment for APFrench Language and Culture,and, in partnership with other AP teams,furtherthe strategic growth of APFrench Language and Cultureacross the globe.Serve asanassessment leader for APFrench Language and Culture, with primaryresponsibilityfor assessment development for APFrench Language and Culture.In partnership with and with support fromyour manager,leadprocesses forauthoringandrevisingassessmentcontent, includingtraining educator constituents to authorassessmentcontent,(includingselectionofappropriate stimulusmaterial,andapplication ofbest assessment practices).In partnershipwith and with support fromyour manager, lead the development and management ofassessmentcontent(formative and summative)and scoring materialsfor APFrench Language and Culturethrough iterative review stages with multipleinternal and externalstakeholders, includingtheAPFrench Language and CultureTeam, Assessment Production team, Test Development Committee, and the Chief Reader, as appropriate.In partnership with and with support from your manager, leadthedevelopment ofassessmentformsfor APFrench Language and Culture, ensuring theAP Exam development aligns with approved curricula and test specifications.Facilitate(with support from your manager and/or other team members)multiple face-to-face, weekend meetings, and virtual meetings (during work week, evenings, or weekends) annually withtheAPFrench Language and CultureTest Development Committee.Train and directly supervise Test Development Committee members in APFrench Language and Cultureas content development contributorsand reviewers. Facilitate(with support from your manager and/or other team members)the successful scoring ofstudentresponses for APFrench Language and CultureExamsat the annual scoring eventin person and online—the “AP Reading”—and produce AP Reading publications materials forteacher and student use.Contribute tolearningand best practices related to assessmentbyparticipatingin regular discussions with other AP Curriculum & Assessmentstaffmembers on the current assessment standards and practices to build a set of common, shared beliefs about AP’s assessment directionswithin the larger educational and assessment community.Support assessment workstreams within the APEnglish, World Languages, and Arts.Contribute to processes forefficient,high-qualityassessment development.Contribute to initiatives to refine and improve question task models as well as exam design in collaboration withAP Curriculum & Assessment leadersand aligned to other College Board initiativesto achievepsychometric and disciplinary best practiceson APFrench Language and Cultureexams.Monitor exam validity,security,reliability, fairness, and quality, as well as reader reliabilityin accordance withestablished Program thresholdsforAPFrench Language and Cultureexam,identifyingareas for improvement.Collaborate with psychometrics and AP Curriculum & Assessment staff toestablishfair, reliable, and valid cut scores for APFrench Language and Cultureexam.Collaborate with the APteams dedicated to instructional design and product developmentto develop new productsfor APFrench Language and Culturedesigned to address unmet teacher instructional needs, including developing prototypes,participatingin small-scale market-testing, and creating models forsubsequentdevelopment in conjunction with other AP workstreams.Refine and improve APFrench Language and CultureCourse Frameworkto ensure clear and explicitlearning outcomes thatalign withstrategic priorities, includingensuringcollege/disciplinary standards as well asexpanding the scope ofreaching a broader audience of AP students.Serve as a recognized and trusted resource within the educator community by collaboration and engagement with the community to drive teacher satisfaction with APFrench Language and Cultureand its exam.Represent and increase support for the AP Program’s mission among external stakeholders in APFrench Language and Culture,through varied strategies inclusive ofpublic/disciplinarypresentations,directoutreachto teachers and educators(customer service inquiries, presence on APCourse Nameonline teacher community, etc.).Collaborate with the AP Professional learning team to support APFrench Language and Cultureconsultants and teachers.Recruit educators fortheAPFrench Language and CultureDevelopment Committeeand other opportunities to support AP Program.Work with the AP Higher Education team to co-develop and implement plans to raise college and university awareness of APFrench Language and Culturecourses and exams, includingrecruiting college faculty to participate in the AP Reading,co-leading the planning and execution of discipline-specific AP Faculty Colloquia events, and supporting Visiting and Virtual Fellows Programs. About YouTo qualify for this role, you must have: A Master’s degree in French Language or a directly related discipline, and knowledge of current trends in the disciplineNative to near-native fluency in French Experience in standardized assessment developmentClear and concise oral and written communications skills Excellent organizational and planning skills, including the ability to effectively handle multiple tasks simultaneously Meticulous attention to detail, including the ability to closely proofread Excellent skills in process and procedure implementation, including adhering to project plans and schedules, and maintaining project management documentation for trackingAdaptable to new circumstances and approaches Technical acumen and aptitude; proficiency with Microsoft Office, use of browser-based applications and toolsCuriosity and enthusiasm for emerging technologies such as new AI-driven solutions and a comfort learning and applying new digital tools independently and proactivelyA learner's mindset and a commitment to growth: welcoming diverse perspectives, giving and receiving timely, respectful feedback, and continuously improving through iterative learning and user input, and an openness to new ideasA drive for impact and excellence: solving complex problems, making data-informed decisions, prioritizing what matters most, and continuously improving through learning, user input, and external benchmarking.
