Since 1954, Woodgrain is proud to be family owned and operated. Salary: $55,000+ DOE Job Summary:The Environmental Health and Safety Specialist is responsible for the environmental permits/projects for all Lumber and Millwork Division facilities. The position is responsible for working with the facilities to ensure compliance with the current environmental permits, collecting data, developing reports and liaising with the Department of Environmental Quality to ensure continuing operations. This individualwill also work directly with the Division Environmental Health and Safety Manager to provide consistent implementation of the safety plan and provide support for the plant safety coordinators. The EHS Specialist will work in partnership with leaders to implement best practices and monitor compliance with environmental and safety requirements. Duties and Responsibilities: SAFETYWork with the Division EHS Manager to provide consistent implementation of the Division safety planCoordinate and schedule monthly safety meetingsWork with safety coordinators and plant managers to develop the safety cultureProvide recommendations for improving safety in the workplaceAssist in evaluation of accidents that occur and identify possible root causesMaintain documentation of the company's safety procedures, accidents and related eventsAudit safety programs, processes and proceduresAttend and occasionally present at monthly Woodgrain Safety Council MeetingsAssist in organizing and coordinating semi-annual Woodgrain Safety WeekUpdate and maintain Community Right to Know ReportsAssist in the implementation of the company SMS ENVIRONMENTALUpdate, implement, and periodically review an organizational environmental plan (e.g., obtain, update, and maintain OM&M plans, permits, and standard operating procedures (SOP))Maintain compliance with current air and water permitsPrepare, review, and update environmental reports for Responsible Official and submit to DEQ and EPAUtilize DEQ and EPA websites to submit regulatory documentsConduction investigations for all deviation reports and evaluate corrective actionsAttend and liaise with DEQ officials for all inspections and permit auditsAnalyze scientific data and do quality-control checksMonitor progress of environmental improvement programsInspect facilities and programs to ensure organizational compliance with environmental regulationsEducate personnel regarding environmental complianceEnvironmental data collection and compilationManage Environmental Consultant projectsManage the SDS management system for the division by reviewing all new chemical request forms  Requirements:Bachelor's Degree in a related field is preferred but not required.2+ years of experience preferably in manufacturing environment is preferred.Knowledge of safety principles and OSHA requirements.Regulatory reading and comprehension.Strong attention to detail.Ability to communicate professionally, effectively, and efficiently.Interpersonal and communication skills; including effective writing and presentation skillsAbility to solve problems using critical thinking.Ability to complete work with an understanding of larger objectives in mind.Ability to work well and collaborate in a team environment.Effective time management and organizational skills.Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities at the same time while meeting deadlines.Ability to self-direct and prioritize.Ability to adapt and effectively communicate to changing audiences.Ability to communicate professionally, effectively, and efficientlyAbility speak in front of a group. Physical Demands:The physical demands and work environment are representative of a typical office environment; however, this person is expected to also be on  the manufacturing floor/environment for long periods of time. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk and hear. The employee must be able to lift or move up to 25 pounds.
