Posting Summary Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) for the Acute Psychiatric Services Department within Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care.The primary purpose of the Licensed Practical Nurse is to provide technical nursing care to pediatric through adult populations. Performs treatments and procedures within established guidelines and provides a safe and therapeutic environment.Among the key duties of this position are the following: Participates in data collection related to patient status and needs. Provides direct patient care within the scope of practice to ensure implementation of the plan of care. Informs and instructs patient/significant others on patient’s health/illness state and plan of care. Assists patients/significant others in preparation for discharge and health maintenance in the home. Documents all aspects of patient care. Contacts insurance companies for certification and recertification of patients. Is knowledgeable of and initiates emergency procedures. Maintains supplies and equipment. Certifications/Licenses Currently licensed as a Licensed Practical Nurse in the State of New Jersey. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Demonstrated strong clinical nursing specialty. Excellent communication skills. Must be PC literate with proficiency in word processing and leadership abilities required. Preferred Qualifications At least six (6) months (twelve (12) months preferred) of recent experience as an LPN in an acute care setting preferred. Phlebotomist and/or medical assistant certification. Recent clinical experience in the relevant clinical specialty. Equipment Utilized Physical Demands and Work Environment PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Position requires standing 2/3 of the time, walking to 2/3 of the time, requires sitting 1/3 of the time, use of hands to finger, handle or feel 2/3 of the time, reach with hands and arms, 1/3 of the time, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl 1/3 of the time, talk or hear over 2/3 of the time. WORK ENVIRONMENT: Moderate noise (examples: business office with computers and printers, light traffic). Functions will be carried out in certain areas, where hospital blood borne and airborne pathogens exposure control plans must be followed.
