Instrument & Control Technician II Duration: Through 10/18/2026, with potential for extension based on performance and team needs. Location: Campbell Generating Complex, West Olive, MI 49460 (on-site) # of Openings: 4 Position Overview: CMS Energy is seeking an Instrument & Control Technician II to provide technical expertise in maintaining, troubleshooting, and ensuring the performance of instrumentation and control systems for our power plant operations. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the safe operation of laboratory and plant equipment, performing calibration and maintenance tasks, and ensuring the plant meets environmental compliance standards. Key Responsibilities: Laboratory Safety & Monitoring: Ensure all safety protocols are followed in laboratory settings. Perform daily water quality monitoring and ensure proper fuel and oil sampling/analysis. Instrument Calibration & Maintenance: Calibrate and maintain laboratory and inline instrumentation, ensuring all devices are performing optimally. Conduct troubleshooting and repair of equipment when necessary. Environmental Sampling & Reporting: Perform environmental sampling, testing, and reporting to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. Handle wastewater treatment processes. Data Collection & Reporting: Collect and analyze data to prepare internal and external reports. Ensure accurate reporting of equipment status, environmental parameters, and system performance. Collaboration with Teams: Work closely with plant operations, maintenance, engineering, and external vendors to resolve any issues related to instrumentation, equipment, and processes. Customer Service & Communication: Maintain strong communication with all team members, providing support and technical guidance as needed to ensure plant operations run smoothly. Essential Functions: Troubleshoot and repair electronic, electrical, mechanical, and other plant systems to ensure reliability and safety. Provide technical expertise to supervisors, operators, and engineers to resolve issues and ensure smooth operation. Operate diagnostic tools and equipment to troubleshoot problems in instrumentation and control systems. Assist in the calibration, repair, and replacement of system components such as transfer switchgear, motor control panels, valves, and frequency drives. Collaborate with service technicians and vendors to identify necessary parts, supplies, and repairs. Review and interpret technical documents and drawings for maintenance, construction, and testing activities. Ensure compliance with environmental regulations through routine testing, sampling, and reporting. Physical Demands: Work Environment: Primarily on-site with no remote flexibility. May require working in various plant environments (e.g., high temperatures, confined spaces). Physical Requirements: The role requires frequent movement and handling of materials up to 10 pounds regularly and up to 40 pounds occasionally. It may also require the employee to stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch for extended periods. Visual Requirements: Ability to work with close vision, color vision, and depth perception to accurately assess instrumentation and equipment. Other Requirements: Must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime when required. Qualifications: Education: Associate degree in a scientific or technical field, or 48 credit hours in a scientific or technical discipline. Preferred Education: Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Environmental Science, or a related field. Experience: 1+ year of experience in maintenance, technical, and/or operational activities in power plants or chemical processing environments. Experience in operating or maintaining turbine rooms, steam rooms, or boilers. Familiarity with power plant systems, thermodynamic cycles, and environmental regulatory compliance. Skills & Knowledge: Proficient in handling analytical laboratory equipment, instrumentation, and high-quality water production systems (e.g., reverse osmosis, filtration, ion exchange). Knowledge of NPDES, stormwater management, RCRA waste management, and Waste Treatment Plant Operator Certification is a plus. Additional Information: Travel may be required for training or off-site support. Ability to work effectively under pressure and handle multiple tasks simultaneously. Regular attendance is essential for the role.
