Description We offer a merit-based work-from-home program based on job responsibilities. After initial training in-person, this specific role could have the flexibility to work from home up to 3 days per week.Auto-Owners Insurance, a top-rated insurance carrier, is seeking a motivated underwriting trainee to join our team. This job performs and applies insurance coverage, rules and guidelines to execute the underwriting decision-making process according to Company underwriting philosophy. This job includes training and development through completion of the Company’s underwriter training program for the assigned line of insurance and requires the person to:Learn various insurance coverages and contracts along with company philosophy and procedures, in order to make underwriting decisionsRead, interpret, and react to documents such as policies, manuals, forms, and endorsements to understand their meaning and useAssemble information, develop opinions, and clearly express decisions using sound reasoning and judgmentAnalyze loss experience, financial conditions and physical characteristics of risksAcquires a working knowledge of supporting sections of the underwriting departmentEffectively communicate with independent agents and other associates through verbal and/or written meansParticipate in and successfully complete the Company underwriter training programDesired Skills & ExperienceBachelor's degree or equivalent experienceAbility to organize data, multi-task and make decisions independentlyAbove average communication skills (written and verbal)Ability to write reports and compose correspondenceAbility to resolve complex issuesContinually develop product knowledge through participation in approved educational programsEqual Employment OpportunityAuto-Owners Insurance is an equal opportunity employer.
