Position Overview The Automotive Body Shop Technician is responsible for performing high-quality repairs on damaged vehicles, restoring them to their pre-accident condition.This role involves working with a variety of tools and materials to perform tasks such as dent repair, frame straightening, panel replacement, and refinishing.The Body Shop Technician must have a keen eye for detail, a thorough understanding of automotive repair techniques, and the ability to work efficiently to meet deadlines. Key Responsibilities Damage Repair: Assess vehicle damage and determine the appropriate repair methods. Perform structural and non-structural repairs, including frame straightening, welding, and panel replacement. Repair or replace damaged body panels, doors, fenders, bumpers, and other components. Surface Preparation: Sand, grind, and prime surfaces in preparation for painting. Apply body fillers and perform necessary sanding to ensure smooth surfaces. Mask and tape vehicles to protect areas not being painted. Quality Control: Conduct thorough inspections of repaired vehicles to ensure all work meets quality standards. Perform final adjustments and touch-ups as necessary. Test drive repaired vehicles to verify proper alignment and functionality. Tool and Equipment Maintenance: Maintain and clean tools, equipment, and work areas. Ensure that all equipment is in good working condition and report any issues to management. Stay updated on new tools, technologies, and repair techniques. Safety and Compliance: Follow all safety protocols and use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required. Comply with local, state, and federal regulations regarding vehicle repairs. Dispose of hazardous materials according to environmental regulations. Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with estimators to understand repair plans and timelines. Communicate with parts associates to ensure timely delivery of needed parts. Collaborate with other technicians and body shop staff to achieve efficient workflow. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent; additional technical training or certification in automotive repair is preferred. Strong knowledge of automotive repair techniques and procedures. Proficiency in using a variety of tools and equipment, including welding machines, frame straighteners, and spray guns. Ability to read and interpret repair manuals and technical specifications. Excellent attention to detail and quality craftsmanship. Good communication and teamwork skills. Ability to work efficiently and manage time effectively. Physical Requirements Ability to lift and carry parts and equipment up to 50 pounds. Frequent standing, walking, bending, and kneeling. Ability to work in a body shop environment, which may involve exposure to loud noises, dust, and fumes. Work Environment Primarily in a body shop environment. May involve occasional exposure to extreme temperatures, depending on the season and shop conditions. Performance Metrics Quality and accuracy of vehicle repairs. Efficiency in completing repairs within estimated time frames. Customer satisfaction and feedback. Adherence to safety protocols and compliance with regulations. The ideal candidate for the Automotive Body Shop Technician position will be detail-oriented, skilled in various repair techniques, and committed to delivering high-quality workmanship.This role is crucial in ensuring customer vehicles are restored to their original condition, contributing to the body shop's reputation for excellence.
