PURPOSE OF POSITIONThe OST Specialist supports the academic, social–emotional, and cultural development of Navajo Preparatory School students during after-school and extended-learning hours. Grounded in Diné cultural values and the IB Learner Profile, the OST Specialist facilitates structured activities, tutoring support, enrichment opportunities, and mentorship that promote student success and whole-child development.OST Specialists help students strengthen academic skills, build confidence, develop practical life skills, and engage in meaningful extracurricular programs aligned with the goals of the 21st Century Community Learning Center (21st CCLC) grant. This position contributes to creating a safe, supportive, culturally grounded environment that empowers students to make positive choices, explore interests, and thrive as emerging leaders. The OST Specialist integrates the Navajo Preparatory School's mission and the IB Learner Profile with Diné cultural teachings to foster holistic student development.QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTSRequired Qualifications· High School Diploma or GED required.· Must be 18 years of age to work with students in grades 9–12.· Minimum 1–2 years of experience in education, youth programs, recreation, or related work.· Basic knowledge of learning styles, socio-emotional and youth development needs.· Computer literacy and ability to use basic communication and reporting systems.· Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.· Ability to always maintain confidentiality and professional conduct.· Ability to work flexible after-school evening hours and weekends.· Must possess or be able to obtain a valid CPR/First Aid certification within 60 days of hire.· Must have a valid driver's license.Preferred Experience · Demonstrated initiative, leadership, and dependability in youth or educational settings.· Associate's degree in education, psychology, social work, human development, recreation, or a related field OR minimum of 9 college credits in a core academic subject area.· Experience tutoring or mentoring high school students.· Ability to communicate in Navajo and/or willingness to learn to communicate in Navajo.· Demonstrated understanding of Navajo language, culture, and values.· Experience facilitating group activities, youth workshops, or experiential learning.· Experience coordinating logistics for events, trips, or community partnerships.Required Skills· Commitment to supporting student growth in a safe, positive, non-judgmental environment.· Strong rapport-building skills and ability to be an effective role model.· Patience, adaptability, creativity, and enthusiasm for working with youth.· Ability to assist students in developing study habits, responsibility, and independence.· Professional reliability-punctuality, consistency, follow-through.· Ability to collaborate effectively with peers, supervisors, and community partners to support program goals.· Ability to lift up to 25 lbs., supervise outdoor activities, and accompany students on local and regional tripsDesired Knowledge· Proficient knowledge, understanding, and respect for the Navajo language, history, and culture· Appreciation of the International Baccalaureate and Diné philosophy of learning to support student's residential and day school experience.· Knowledge in various college and career readiness and real-world skills· Familiarity with data entry systems or databases (EZReports, Modern Campus Involve, Excel, etc.)Navajo/Indian preference:Consideration for employment will be given to Navajo, American Indian or Alaskan Tribal member with the required documentation including the necessary qualifications to meet the minimum requirements of the position. The position involves moderate physical activity such as standing, walking, and carrying materials, as well as supervision of students during outdoor and recreational activities. Occasional evening and weekend hours are required for events and field trips.SUPERVISORPrimary: 21st Century Site CoordinatorRESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES Program Planning & DeliveryDesign, coordinate and deliver workshops, lectures, classes and enrichment activities that align with: IB academic support, Diné language and culture, socio-emotional wellness, college & career readiness, and real-world life skills.Develop a detailed annual and/or semester calendar of OST events, activities, field trips, and parent/community engagement nights.Create accompanying lesson plans, materials, and facilitator guides for each activity or session, ensuring alignment with program goals and Diné cultural values.Collaborate with teachers, staff, coaches, community partners and parents to ensure coherence between after-school activities and the school's academic and cultural mission.Incorporate student feedback, leadership, and choice into OST activity design and facilitation.Support integration of student voice and culturally responsive pedagogy in all OST offerings. Attendance, Data & ReportingMaintain accurate sign-in/sign-out sheets for students for every activity, program session, and off-campus trip.Enter, track and report student attendance and participation data into the designated system (such as EZReports or another OST/21st CCLC-compliant database).Create surveys (for students, parents, staff and community partners) to assess needs, interests, satisfaction and outcomes of OST programming; collect and analyze data, produce summary reports, and use findings to refine future programming.Monitor student participation, engagement trends and identify students who may need additional support or outreach.Ensure timely and accurate submission of data for federal and state 21st CCLC compliance requirements.Support data storytelling and program highlights through photos, quotes or summaries for reports and presentations. Student Safety & Facilities OversightEnsure a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for all students participating in after-school, weekend and off-campus OST activities.Supervise and monitor student safety across campus, in the Hogan, fitness/weight-room, workspaces, off-campus trips and other programs.Make sure safety equipment is used appropriately (e.g., in fitness or recreation activities) and ensure all program spaces, equipment and supplies meet safety standards.Maintain the cleanliness, organization, and functional condition of all OST programming spaces - workrooms, Hogan, office, supply rooms, equipment storages.Assist with scheduling and oversight of student use of facilities (e.g., weight-room, fitness center, Hogan) during OST hours, ensuring respectful use and proper cleanup.Participate in or assist with emergency drills or incident reporting during OST programming hours. Inventory, Supplies & PurchasingTrack, organize and maintain inventory of OST supplies, materials, tools, equipment and resources.Ensure storage, maintenance and orderly distribution of materials to facilitate high-quality programming.Assist in purchasing or procuring supplies, materials and tools for OST activities, working with the 21st CCLC budget, vendors, school procurement rules and supervisor approval.Monitor usage, restock supplies when needed, and maintain records of expenditures, inventory logs and condition of equipment.Support preparation and cleanup for OST activities, ensuring materials and spaces are ready for next use. Parent & Community EngagementDevelop and execute parent-night events, family engagement workshops and community partner involvement opportunities linked to OST programming.Market and promote OST activities to families, students, staff and community stakeholders, emphasizing how the program supports Diné culture, academic achievement and leadership.Build and maintain effective partnerships with parents, guardians, community organizations, cultural resource persons, and local entities to enhance the OST experience and student development.Communicate regularly with parents/guardians about program offerings, student participation, and opportunities for family involvement.Support family engagement events such as Fall Feast, Round Dances, or Culture Nights by assisting with planning, setup, and facilitation. Support & CollaborationServe as a positive role model and mentor for students during OST programming, demonstrating cultural respect, leadership, trust, and high expectations.Work closely with the 21st CCLC Coordinator, school staff (teachers, counselors, coaches), residential life (if applicable) and community partners to ensure alignment of OST, residential and day-school student support.Collaborate with Residential Life staff, Academics, Athletics, and Student Support Services to promote holistic wellness and student success.Participate in required trainings, workshops and professional development related to out-of-school time programming, youth development, cultural competence and grant compliance.OST Specialists will be evaluated in accordance with Navajo Preparatory School Board policies and procedures and based on program implementation, student engagement, and professional conduct.Perform other duties as assigned by the 21st CCLC Coordinator or supervisor that support the mission of the OST program.EVALUATIONOST Specialist will be evaluated in accordance with the Navajo Preparatory School Board policies and proceduresJob Posted by ApplicantPro
