Assembly Technician III

Overview Technician Level III must assemble, align, test, and calibrate electro- and/or opto-mechanical subassemblies and instruments. Assemble intricate electro- and/or opto-mechanical assemblies with precision tools and fixturing. Integrate the electro- and/or opto-mechanical components and assemblies with state-of-the-art computers to perform the final system qualification and inspection. Troubleshoot subassemblies, finished units, and/or production opto-mechanical assemblies and repair as necessary, all under the direction of the Production Manager. Responsibilities Perform assembly operations on opto-mechanical parts Package assemblies and subassemblies Troubleshoot Simple and Complex Builds Troubleshoot test beds Train and assist others on Tech I & II skills, as required Train others on equipment operation and manufacturing concepts Perform visual inspections for obvious damage or defects Assist Machine Shop with design and fabrication of Assembly fixtures & tools Assist Project Management/Engineering with prototypes; provide feedback of designs and ways to improve Assist in writing work instructions and procedures Lead LEAN & 5S initiatives Perform light housekeeping to keep work area clean and organized according to our 5s program Assist in creation/updating of Control Plans and Inspection Plans Timeliness and regular attendance are required Must be willing to work overtime as required Comply with federal, state, and company policies, procedures and regulations Perform other similar and related duties as assigned Qualifications To perform this position successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. Required Skills & Abilities: Optics Handling Certification (within a reasonable time of start date) Read and understand complex assembly drawings, blue prints, production orders and work instructions Understand quality protocols (in-process and final inspection) Strong mechanical background Strong verbal and written communication skills Ability to apply learned concepts/skills to new projects Working knowledge of MS Office applications especially Word and Excel US Citizenship or Permanent Residence required Education/Experience: Associate Degree or equivalent, minimum of five to seven (5- 7) years related prior work experience or High school diploma or equivalent; minimum of nine (9) years related prior work experience. Working knowledge of the following is a plus: analog, digital electronics, electrical schematics, measuring instruments, electro- opto-mechanical troubleshooting techniques, optical systems, optical schematics, ESD and/or optical cleaning and handling techniques Physical Requirements: Walking, talking, standing, stooping, climbing, keyboarding and the ability to lift up to 30 pounds. May be required to use shop and power tools to modify parts or equipment.
