Assistant or Associate Professor in Quantum Information Science and Technology

Job Description: The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering in the Thomas J. Watson College of Engineering and Applied Science at Binghamton University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of assistant professor to begin in fall of 2026. We seek exceptional scholars whose research and teaching will elevate Watson College's strengths in Quantum Information Science and Technology (QIST) and help build cross-disciplinary collaborations across engineering and the physical/computational sciences. Theoretical Focus Areas include (but not limited to): distributed quantum computing, quantum networking, quantum sensing/metrology/imaging, quantum error correction, and quantum entanglement theory. Experimental Focus Areas include (but not limited to): neutral-atom platforms (cold atoms or warm vapor), photonic systems (including nonlinear crystal sources and quantum optics), and other hardware relevant to quantum networking, sensing, imaging, metrology, and quantum information processing. Responsibilities include: Developing and sustaining a vibrant, externally funded research programMentoring graduate and undergraduate studentsTeaching at the undergraduate and graduate levelsProviding service to the department, college, and university While the primary target is the Assistant Professor rank, exceptional candidates at the Associate Professor level with well-established research program and strong, sustained extramural funding will also be considered, contingent on qualifications and budgetary approval. Requirements: Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Computer Engineering/Science, or a closely related field by spring of 2026.Commitment to excellence in research, teaching, mentoring, and inclusive academic culture.Record of scholarship as evidenced by peer-reviewed publications and citationsTeaching experience at the undergraduate/graduate levelsPotential to secure extramural funding.Potential to build a visible research program and to collaborate across disciplines. Preferred Qualifications (to be considered for Associate Professor): Nationally or internationally recognized research record in QIST.Evidence of sustained extramural funding and a well-established, high-impact research program.Demonstrated leadership in QIST (e.g., team building, center-scale initiatives, community service, or standards/roadmapping efforts).
