This position is open to anyone who meets the minimum and selective qualifications listed below. All eligible candidates must meet the minimum and selective qualifications by the closing date. This is a position specific recruitment. The resulting list of eligible candidates will be used to fill this vacancy or function only. You will need to reapply for any future recruitment conducted for this job classification. Nature of Work: The overall purpose of this position is to provide leadership as the supervising manager of a staff of at least three professional level subordinate transportation engineers. This position is responsible for oversight of all major transportation projects and daily traffic operations, including safety and efficiency along all state highways in Montgomery and Prince George’s counties. This position is also the liaison between the Area District Engineer (ADE)-Traffic and all other engineering offices at SHA, including all district offices. This position will attend and represent the District Engineer in public meetings with citizen groups and elected officials regarding traffic issues. They will also be in constant contact with approximately 127 state elected officials (senators, delegates, council members & mayors) from many towns and jurisdictions that surround the I-495 Beltway. The Team Leader will oversee open-ended engineering consultant contracts for the engineering division. This position will provide leadership, advice, and support to the team and resolve any personnel conflicts. This position will also oversee training and administer performance appraisals of the professional engineering staff. MDOT offers a generous and competitive benefits package. Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education : Possession of a bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited college or university. Experience : Eight (8) years of experience in professional engineering, including one (1) year of supervisory or consultant management experience. Selective Qualification: Four (4) years of the required experience must have been in traffic engineering or operations. *This statement contains a selective qualification, which is more focused in scope than the minimum qualifications for this classification. Selective qualifications are utilized when the position requires specific or additional bona fide occupational qualifications (i.e., knowledge, skill or ability). Preferred Qualifications: The ideal candidate should have a profession engineering license related to traffic. Notes: 1. Additional work experience in professional engineering, or in technical engineering at the journey level or above, may be substituted on a year for year basis for the required education. 2. Possession of a master's degree in engineering may be substituted for one year of the non- supervisory experience. 3. Persons currently registered as Professional Engineers in the state of Maryland, or in a state with comparable requirements, are considered to have met the education requirements. Licenses & Certifications Candidate must possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in state of Maryland.
