The Opportunity We are looking for a hands-on and motivated Field Service Technician to deliver electrical and mechanical service, maintenance, installation, and support for our automated packaging equipment. This permanent role involves working as part of the Visy Automation service team, providing breakdown support, preventative maintenance, and commissioning of machinery. You’ll have the chance to work across a range of systems including robotics, PLCs, servo drives, conveyors, and associated mechanical components. The role requires an A Grade Electrical Licence, but is also open to candidates with strong mechanical aptitude, mechatronics experience, or trade qualifications in pneumatics or hydraulics. Reporting to the National Service Manager, you’ll ensure machinery performance, minimise downtime, and maintain customer satisfaction across multiple sites, with occasional interstate travel. Key Responsibilities Perform electrical and mechanical service, installation, and repairs on Visy Automation equipment Troubleshoot and maintain PLCs, touchscreen interfaces, robotics, servo drives, and motors Assist with commissioning and modifications of new or existing machinery Conduct machine audits and recommend improvements for efficiency and reliability Read and interpret AutoCAD diagrams, manuals, and technical documents Deliver training to customer personnel on safe and effective equipment operation Maintain detailed service records, including fault diagnostics and part recommendations Work collaboratively with engineers, suppliers, sales, and customer teams to deliver results Adhere to all Visy and customer site safety protocols What You Will Bring to the Team Current A Grade Electrical Licence (Victoria) – mandatory 5+ years’ experience in field service, maintenance, or installation within manufacturing, packaging, or automation Strong mechanical aptitude or trade/technical skills Experience troubleshooting and maintaining PLCs (Allen Bradley, Siemens, Omron), robotics, servo drives, conveyors, and pneumatics Excellent problem-solving skills with a methodical approach to diagnosing issues Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, wiring diagrams, and AutoCAD schematics Intermediate computer skills, including MS Office and basic network/device troubleshooting Strong communication skills and a focus on delivering exceptional customer service Flexibility to travel interstate occasionally, and willingness to work safely in diverse environments Certifications & Licences Mandatory: A Grade Electrical Licence (Victoria) Desirable: Robotics experience (ABB or similar), post-trade mechanical, pneumatics, or engineering qualifications What You’ll Love When You Join Visy Variety: Work across a broad range of electrical and mechanical systems on customer sites throughout Australia Innovation: Be part of a team advancing automation in packaging Growth: Access to ongoing technical training and defined career development pathways Support: Work in a collaborative team that values safety, integrity, and innovation Ready to take your technical career on the road?
